It is offered by public libraries, so you just register for a free Hoopla account with your library card number, and then your library will have a specific number of checkouts you can do per month. (My system only allows four per month.) You can also keep a list/queue of things to check out later, and they also include streaming movies and music albums with shorter checkout periods.

Excited for the YJ crew being back but boy this issue was all over the place. Just like, a massive coincidence that all these people show up at the same time. I do like Amethyst though so hopefully the roughness of that opening issue was just getting the niceties out of the way to get to the meat of what's going on.

All that said god I hate Bendis dialogue. It's like I have to read everything with a stutter.

Not to mention Bart never existed in this universe either for the same reason that Wally's so hosed up. I guess they might think he's lovely New 52 Teen Titans Bart in a new outfit but I doubt Bendis cares enough about anything but whatever he's writing.

Yeah, Bart came back at the end of Flash War but that doesn't explain how anyone knows who he is. He makes no sense in this universe for anyone to know besides Wally and maybe Iris.

You can't explain how Bart exists in this universe right now besides "he just kind of survived Flashpoint."

The next generation will just continue to atrophy under the silver age gen that has and will continue to dominate comics until the comics section folds. Wally was the only one to even get out from under that in any significant way and look where he's been the last 15 years.

You didn't really approach anything I said. The larger point was that King's a major influence in DC right now (which includes stuff like writing their biggest character in their hail mary attempt to get into the mainstream market) and keeping an eye on his work to see what image the company is putting out is relevant. Doubly so if he's handling characters you might be fond of.

Good news; back issues and TPBs still exist. Read those instead while you wait for them to start publishing new stuff you care about again."

Don't read comics you don't enjoy. Definitely don't spend money on comics you don't enjoy. It's not that loving hard.

If a person is such a 'Batman fan' that they're spending actual money on comics they hate just so they can bitch about them on the Internet, they should probably stop doing that. They could instead go and spend that money on something that will bring them joy, and recognize that 'liking a comic book character' is not a substitute for a personality.

I mean, gently caress, man, I'm a Ted Kord Blue Beetle fan, but even back in the day I skipped comics he was in if they were bad. Because life's too short to subject myself to bad comics. Especially when I would have to spend actual money to read them.

I like being told to wait when I've been waiting since 2009. You're right, the solution is I'm just not patient enough and also that I have no personality. Thanks for the reality check.

You asked 'How do you tell a Batman fan, "Don't read Batman," ?' so I told you. If you decide to internalize that poo poo, that's on you, my man.

More seriously, it is okay to recognize that if the industry is not giving you what you want, you can walk away from it. It does not need to be a defining pillar of your life. In fact if it is that's probably not all that healthy. You're sitting here saying "I'm a Wally West fan and Wally West has been poo poo on by DC and it's making me sad and has been making me sad for a decade now," and I'm saying "maybe you should accept that DC is apparently just not that into you and stop giving them your money, since they are apparently doing nothing to earn your loyalty."

If you're refusing to do that - if you've been unhappy with the company's output since 2009, when it is currently 2019, but you're still buying their poo poo anyway? That's not being a fan, that's a pathology.

Could you crawl out of your own rear end for half a second? Good lord. The 2009 remark was merely a jab at your "just wait" comment. I'm not paying DC any money save a couple of the Sandman books (edit: I forgot I'm buying Young Justice, because I...like those characters) but I'll stop talking about Wally West I guess, lest my spiraling, terrible life impact your comics forum reading experiences anymore. The main thing I do is follow solicits and see what's up with things I have interest in (note, most of my comments in these threads are about solicits or, I dunno, Abnett's Aquaman for awhile which I liked).

If you guys can't get it in your head that some people are attached to particular characters and that's what they're interested in then whatever. You're like the vast minority of people actually involved in the hobby. Most folks found their favorites at one point or another and tend to follow them. "Pathology," alright, man.

It's kinda like how I enjoy baseball but don't feel the need to listen to people who haven't watched the sport since the designated hitter became a thing when they try telling me "baseball sucks now."

Dude, if you're constructing an identity around being a fan of a character - and I know this is what you're doing because you said so ("My schtick is being the one Wally West person on this forum") - that's a really dumb thing to construct an identity around. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that. I like a bunch of characters, personally - but I've rarely felt the need to say "I'm a Tony Stark guy, let me tell you about all the way Marvel is loving up this character." But hey, you keep on doing you, I guess. Again. And continually.

With regards to that King response, does anyone else think it's weird that Superman would imagine highly visceral and detailed death of his wife? Like I get being worried about her, I don't get imagining a bullet going through her head and all the other stuff. I'm a pretty pessimistic person and I don't go that far. And I'm no Superman.

Obviously if he stops writing good stuff down the road I might decide I don't like him anymore, but as of early 2019 I think his highs are still as high as anyone in the business.

I know married people who obsess about all kinds of awful things happening to their spouses or kids, and Superman's seen more awful poo poo happen than most, and knows his wife's in more danger than most. I don't think it's weird at all, whether it should have been portrayed or not. I don't visualize things as much, but if I have a hard time reaching a family member for a while my brain can get pretty dark pretty fast too, even if I know the scenarios I'm coming up with are unlikely.

See I get vaguely imagining really bad things. It's the difference between thinking, "What if she gets shot during her job?" and "What if Lex Luthor puts a bullet through her brain and there's a nasty blood splatter and you can see right through her head and poo poo." etc. It's the overindulgence in hyper violence, not the theme of worried, separated spouses itself.
