This thing absolutely rules but also you gotta remember to hit the 'download' button in the bottom left corner. It gives you a few 'steps', the first one is usually the best because it destroys the original lines the least.

It seems to do black and white line drawings pretty well. If you click the download button it shows all the different versions of the colorized image side by side.

yeah im really dumb with the program and only got a deece result when i started with a black and white line drawing that had plenty of closed-in white sections. if yer a photoshop wizard who can convert other types of images to that sorta general format you will prob win the thread

I'm curious, why is this cool? These colorings are all really boring and obvious.

Edit- not saying it isn't cool, I'm just not getting it. Is it just because the tool is fast?

Because it's a computer coloring for you, often giving results to inexperienced people that would normally take hours for somewhat skilled people.

Think Roomba. It's not the best at vacuuming, but it's cool that it's doing it for you.

BoldFrankensteinMir
Jul 28, 2006

Huh. Is coloring ever a pragmatic task like vacuuming though? What's the point in saving time on something that's supposed to be self-expression? Especially when the results are all so... bland...

Being a colorist is an actual real job, and these results are (in a lot of cases, when the right source type is used) better than what most posters would be able to achieve.

Remember that program that generated songs based on minimal human input a while back? They weren't awesome songs, but there is genuine novelty in it for most people. Until the novelty wore off, mind you.

Most of the threads are exploiting some novelty for entertainment until said novelty wears off.

I guess that's cool, and I get that it's all evolving (and open-source is always nice, never know what people will use it for). But if I paid a colorist and they turned in any of this work I'd be pretty pissed.

Yeah but why pay for somebody to do it at all then?

Eh, whatever, tools are neat and somebody will figure out something cool to do with this or a piece of this eventually. Thanks!
