Reynold posted:Does anybody have any info on the NBC Sports Gold Indycar Pass? Still just listed as "coming soon" on their site, but I'd be interested to know how their service works and how much it costs. Not a whole lot of info unfortunately. Marshall Pruett had Jay Frye on the podcast and they did touch on it a little. A viewer mentioned that the current Gold pass doesn't actually have live races, so its not a replacement for people who don't have cable but still want to pay for Indycar. Frye said that he understood the problem, and that they are working on something they think will fill that gap for fans (i'm paraphrasing cause I don't think they do transcripts) https://racer.com/2018/12/24/the-week-in-indycar-dec-24-with-series-president-jay-frye/

There’s really only 4 street circuits on the schedule (one a double header), and all are pretty good, even Detroit these days. Rossi saving fuel vs charging RHR rocked last year. Honestly it’s to the point that I hope they DONT cut any street circuits cause I like the challenge/variety. What a great place to be in.

Some cool IndyCar news: Testing new LED panels from a new supplier this week (sounds like its from Cosworth and will integrate into the data loom), hopefully will be ready to go for the year. https://racer.com/2019/01/11/indycar-set-to-try-again-on-led-panels/ Charlie Kimball will be back with Carlin, not sure for how many races though as there are some rumors it will be part time. https://twitter.com/racewithinsulin/status/1083768499154051073 Wickens continues to be the best: https://twitter.com/robertwickens/status/1083812048046157824

Yeah, they don't run the runway portions cause A) they are bumpy as gently caress and B) they want to simulate the slower portions of streetcircuits that are more important to laptimes, and running down the straight doesn't really do that. This is the old aerokit/electronics, but probably the best highres onboard for the Sebring short course they run, using the access roads to cut through and setup a goofy pitlane on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NbHrjEmZAU

Rolling out a car for Wickens is a classy move. Not sure I like the livery (compared to some of the wilder schemes theyve run lately) but pretty great to see a company step up to sponsor two cars like that. Cygni fucked around with this message at 01:11 on Jan 19, 2019 |

Conor got lots of praise for his Harding stint. Glad Andretti is rewarding him with a ride. That’s 30 confirmed car+drivers for Indy. Juncos, D&R, Coyne, Foyt, and SPM all have rumors/speculation about entries too.

Honda's North America HQ is right down the street in Torrance (near where Toyota used to be), so I kinda expected they would pick the race up. If nothing else, its a good gently caress you to Toyota, and Honda LOVES doing that maybe more than anything else .

Reynold posted:O'Ward parting with Harding Steinbrenner before the start of the season! Man I hope this dude lands a good ride. This sucks an rear end. Harding has now messed up the driver contract situation two years in a row by apparently thinking sponsorship was just going to land in his lap magically. Carlin and Juncos have open dates in their cars, but frankly Pato deserves more. The Kimoa Kid posted:What the gently caress ever happened to the aeroscreen? Apparently there is going to be a release about it this week as part of the off season series meetings with all the teams/drivers at COTA. Frye did say on Pruett's podcast a few weeks ago that they weren't 100% satisfied with the results on ovals, and there were new prototypes in testing.

Herta to P1 again, this time by 7 tenths. Either Harding is running out of spec like Bourdais suggested or Colton is a god. Also another disaster of a trip for Foyt. After packing up and leaving Laguna without turning any laps, Tony has run 13 laps in the last 2 days at COTA. Cygni fucked around with this message at 22:54 on Feb 13, 2019 |

RHR won 2 races, both in impressive fashion, and had four 2nd place finishes. New car definitely seems to suit him better than the red barron era. He's absolutely a contender, but beating the Dixon/Power/Rossi trio is going to be tough i think.

Enerson tested with Carlin again at Sebring today, looking more and more likely that he will be in the car for the early season races that Chuck isnt doing, like COTA/Bama/Long Beach. Also the sponsor is Craft 1861, a cannabis derived CBD company who i think will be the first weed sponsor on a big car (hell yeah) Also IndyCar just announced coverage in New Zealand and Australia so it feels like Surfers is commin. FuzzySkinner posted:I do wonder if international governments will figure IndyCar to be more of a cost effective form of grand prix racing to hold over F1? That was Bernie's #1 worry in the mid 90s, and he pushed Tony George into the split and strong armed Brazil/UK/Germany into building 3 weird ovals instead of letting them run at road courses to kill CARTs momentum. These days, I think IndyCar is too small time economically to really be a worry to F1. The F1 race scam targets governments desperate for "World Stage", old boys club attention and extorts them for the privilege. IndyCar won't really give them that.
