While we're complaining about Google search, I loving despise them randomly deciding to remove words from your search to show you a larger volume of results. I loving typed it, of course I want it included in the search. No, I don't want to use advanced search or put quotes around every single word just to ensure that the words I typed are actually contained in the results you're showing me. e: ![]() ![]() feedmyleg has a new favorite as of 18:46 on Apr 7, 2021 |

I also hate when it tries to correct my spelling by automatically showing me search results for words I didn't search for, but it included because they were close and it thought I meant those words instead. I know not everyone is a world class champion speller but they should at least have a setting where you can turn that behavior off

SneezeOfTheDecade posted:Yeah, I tried DDG for three months, and switched back to Google because DDG just isn't actually good at search. I find it works just fine for most searches. I do switch over to google for coding related stuff, but when I want to look up a wikipedia page or find out how baby is made, DDG works fine.

I've seen at least one time where my original search query had quotes around one of the terms and it still autocorrected it and made me click a link to force it. "Goodbye, 'Paul'."

The exact opposite of what I wanted? No, surprisingly enough, I did not mean that.

I mean maybe, but I don't think anyone's googling extinct and typo'ing it to extant, just google deciding the words are kinda of similar and both used in the context of whether an animal is still around or not, and then putting two and two together and getting seven. This is by far my favourite google cock-up though ![]() Yes, google, I wanted to know how long the Prime Minister of England is, in picometers. PM cannot possibly mean anything else to the majority of the planet.

generally all knowledge graph dealies have been increasingly brutal failures, starting w doug lenat cyc poo poo and on. i reserved my doubts in 2012 when they shipped this thing cuz the goog has unfailured many failure technologies (neural nets were a failure tech for two decades there lol) but it seems to have remained a failure
