Would you be my new best friends?

It still blows my mind that people can watch Vic Mackey destroy his entire life, career, reputation, friendships, marriage, relationship with his children etc and go,"He won!" purely because he managed to avoid going to jail (he just ended up in an entirely different kind of jail).

YOU SAY MY POSTS ARE THE RAVINGS OF THE DUMBEST PERSON ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH BUT YOU YOURSELF ARE READING THEM. CURIOUS!

I mean the show itself was a bit confused on what it wanted. Sure drama wise he went through the ringer but while as a cop he was effectively a superhero.

He ended up in his own version of Hell. They cut his deal and then he confessed to a series of crimes so horrific they were visibly furious and made it clear the rest of his days were gonna be spent sitting at a desk filing papers and he'd never work the streets again.

There's also the epilogue of The Shield that was finished in the series finale of Sons of Anarchy which was truly a delight to watch.

Oh I've never seen that! I stopped watching Sons of Anarchy after like season 4, it got SO bad. Was the epilogue a standalone thing or just a reference?

op's making a joke. spoiler: Chiklis plays a trucker (quantifiably not Vic Mackey) who splatters the main character and his bike across the front of his truck while shouting JESUS! (the main character is also holding his hands out in the crucifix pose, embracing death to save his friends. it is a very subtle allegory.)

sons of anarchy really was the show for people who thought tony and walt and vic were wicked cool

Oh my God Sons of Anarchy

Like I said, I stopped watching it because it got so bad. Was I tricked into remembering that season 2 was REALLY good? Because I remember loving season 2

Season 2 benefited from Ron Perlman in general and two great villains in Adam Arkin and Henry Rollins as neo-Nazis trying to take over Charming. After that you got the IRA and Jax's kid being kidnapped and it taking like most of the season for the club to actually get to Ireland and then it just circled the drain. Kurt Sutter never could figure out whether he loved the outlaw biker life or was trying to show how it hurt those in it like David Chase did so well.

The show had very good actors and compelling characters throughout it's run, but Sutter was just absolutely terrible at plotting stuff out. The later season plotlines were not just extremely dumb, they were also repetitive to the point of parody.

They also became excessively joyless. Season four was bad, but after watching Opie get beat to death I just tapped out. It had also gone to absurd lengths of 'Everybody knows Clay is horrible but we keep him around anyway.'

S1&2 of SoA are fantastic, like prestige drama tip tier level. It completely goes off the rails after that point as Sutter just went wild with his insane plots. You can read up on The Shield development process where Sutter would routinely pitch some extremely weird poo poo to the writing room and they would turn it down.

In season 4/5 of SoA someone gets drowned in a bathtub full of piss. Yes, you have questions, but trust me, that's all you need to know to understand how his mind worked.

Sutter seems like a writer who needs someone to tell him "no". I remember hearing he wanted Dutch to be a serial killer in the Shield. Sons of Anarchy isn't great but Walton Goggins as Venus Van Damme was pretty amazing.

That would explain the scene where Dutch murders a cat, it must have been a deleted scene they left in by mistake

There was a very brief scene, I am talking 45 seconds, where Dutch returns a laptop that he apparently used to investigate child pornography on his own. He had to clear the porn off his laptop before he returned it.

That was going to be, well, the beginning of a thing.
