i think the real question we all want to ask is how much more insufferably woke would meadow be if the sopranos started in 2019

Much like looking at The Rock when he was young, it's weird looking at a man the size of Gandolfini in the pilot and thinking jesus he's small there.

what works about jackie is that he's such a moron that you can't tell if he's being sincere or if he's trying to ingratiate himself to meadow to get closer to tony meadow's also a colossal moron everyone's a moron except for furio and charmaine

well, actually, tony literally saves artie's life and livelihood several times in the show, so when you think about it tony's a better spouse to artie than charmaine ever was, she's just a bitch like skyler tony even came up with the two for one coupon idea too

I always thought the mob charged less of a rake / buy-in / whatever than a high-end casino too, because they know when somebody inevitably fucks up (ie. Davey) they can viciously go after them and take everything they own and make more money that way, whereas the casino has to nominally follow legal proceedings to get what they're owed was that in the sopranos or some other mob movie I watched?

I think the dream sequences in Funhouse were good, but a bad precedent for all the surreal stuff that followed like The Test Dream and the Kevin Finnerty debacle. The Sopranos is at its best when its good actors acting really good and stuff. It gets bad when they gently caress around with the artificiality of it all, whether thats Janice seeing Livia's face on the DO NOT PUSH sign or the Carmela yikes freezeframe or Silvio eating soup and then going into slowmo when the guy opposite him gets his head blown off.

Vito’s brother getting his dome caved in by the golf club is one of the most unsettling scenes i think i’ve seen. Also artie my man, youre going out for hamburger when you’ve got filet mignon at home.

sil being the 'nice' one makes the times he freaks out all the better. when the new york guy comes to satriales after the vito stuff and starts talking poo poo and sil smashes the hand vacuum over his head and then stabs the gently caress out of him repeatedly with a butcher's knife after initially laughing it off for a while is one of the most hilariously shocking moments. edit: just rewatched its not sil that does the stabbing but still Eau de MacGowan fucked around with this message at 09:51 on Jun 6, 2019 |

I always thought the underwhelming aftermath was deliberate. Tony's waiting for this huge wash of guilt to hit him for killing his surrogate son... and it just doesn't. Iirc the episode ends - after him trying to either drown or spark something with a lot of excess in vegas - with him taking peyote and laughing at the rising sun saying something like "I get it" or "i did it". I always read that moment as him realising and admitting his true nature at least to himself, agreeing with melfi's ultimate conclusion that criminals cant's be cured.

Sil says, "Oh. Glad we cleared that up."

how thick does a stack of bills have to be to stop a bullet? these guys are terrified of getting killed and are always having to hide stacks of cash everywhere, seems like they could kill two birds with one stone if they just lined their jackets with huge wads.

He stayed that big after the show, so I'd assume it was just Gandolfini enjoying success and the writers writing that in. please don't enjoy success so much your heart explodes in your early fifties

unfortunately he hasn't apparently inherited his dad's acting talent, he's in the deuce and he's not fantastic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUywlVBxv94

the deuce is good (and so is the plot against america, hbo dropped the ball by not advertising that as a david simon show), and i suppose I am being a bit harsh on gandolfini's kid. The role is a dopey failson, so he might be acting really well as a dopey failson and not just actually be a dopey failson, I guess we'll find out when he plays tony.
