When you fight the regular nobodies. I kept instinctively pressing triangle to get behind them.

So the Power of Waking is only meant to be used to awaken sleeping worlds and sleeping hearts. It's like... the whole point of the power. Okay, That's NOT what Sora was doing. What Sora was doing, was cheating the natural order of death in this universe. Riku and company weren't sleeping, they were in the process of dying, they were killed. They should have created Heartless and Nobodies. They were in the process of death, and Sora essentially forced time and reality to obey him to ensure their continued living.

Hence why Young Xehanort was like "You realize this isn't what the Power of Waking is for, you're gonna pay a price for this."

Even when you reassemble everyone and you essentially snap time back to before everything happened (which is similar to the effect of reviving a sleeping world to the way it was at its height) that's NOT what the Power of Waking is for or meant to do. That was literally Sora bashing reality into place.

The thing is, even if he didn't go after Kairi, he was dying. YX already pointed it out to him, Sora may have beaten him, but he'd already crossed the threshold, and would not be surviving it.

You have to remember a big part of Kingdom Hearts is these two constant truths.

1. Prophecies are actually 100% accurate, as they're events as observed by the Master of Masters Keyblade
2. Sora defies the rules of reality and the idea of prophecy.

Roxas and Namine should not be able to exist, a person containing more than one heart should not be able to exist, a person who was never destined to be a Keyblade wielder, was never intended to be one, and was essentially by happenstance made worthy. Ventus never even officially passed the ability down to Sora, it just happened. Sora was never meant to be a Keyblade Wielder.

So, the MoM foresaw the light expiring and Xehanort's victory, that had to happen, because in KH, that's literally how prophecy work. Sora broke time and reality to make the state where both Prophecy happened (they died and lost) and the Light could win. As someone else put it once, Darkness is strong, but Light Cheats.

In the end, he hung on as long as possible and used the remaining time he had to save Kairi, and then faded to dust, reality eventually cashing that check Sora wrote.

A lot of this stuff is in the Ultimania, with a bit extrapolation on my own part

Thank you for this. I wasn't completely on the up en up on the whole endgame. but this helps.

is there more info like this in the ultimania?
