Did a couple of new tracks I'm pretty happy with. Peak is a song about climbing mountains, the mirror is about the terrible/wondrous things you see, hear, and imagine while looking at your reflection in the infinite black lake.

Hey guys! Posted this in the other soundcloud thread but figured Id throw it here too.

I used to post music like a decade ago here as "The Long Mouth Castle" and had a pretty solid response from the forums with my music. Well, Im back and puttin new tunes up finally, but under a new moniker.

Anyways, this is the first track Ive ever done with vocals AND the first track Ive ever put the time into trying proper EQ and mastering. Been a learning experience for sure.

Here it is!

Im gunna make my way through the music you guys have posted here, Id really love to get reintegrated into the music community here as it was always insanely helpful back in the day.

Hope you enjoy!

Your track definitely leaves a lot of room for the vocals. Without knowing what's supposed to fit there, I'd say it does a good job outlining chords and marking the tempo. I might dial the reverb back a little bit. If the style allows it, it would be really cool to hear an instrument doubling up with the vocals in the second verse, or even some kind of countermelody.

That’s my thinking as well, as I don’t want to push my collaborator too far into just my vision i left it pretty open for now until I get some stems to play around with! I really do hope it’s still on, it’s one of my fav tracks I’ve done so far at least.

that baseline is faaaaaat.

the record scratches and samples are a teeny bit much, but mostly fit the song, and fit well in the mix

I'm glad you let the Flute-y bits after the mid break sit on their own though, there's enough happening there that little noises and record scratches would distract from the real attraction there.

anyways I like it.

I suppose I'll post this here. This is what you'd call my "main band" I guess. It's a solo project I've been working on for ages.

https://indigomonsoon.bandcamp.com/releases

If I were to describe it I'd say 90s alt rock blended with Aussie indie rock. Currently I only have some demos up. It's called Vol 1 & 2 because the first and second half are radically different.

I'm in the process of working on two concurrent albums, Clutter and Our Cold Mornings. Both cut of a similar vein but different feels. I plan on releasing both this year.

I'm not sure one what grounds to evaluate the first one, except to say I think I liked the simplest parts best. The second one was really fun. The electric piano sounded especially nice in the mix. I think I can envision in my head that big sound that you're going for that you feel you didn't quite get. I'm not necessarily a pro at this myself, but just taking a guess at what you need to do, maybe it's a matter of building more dynamic range into it? Setting some of the instruments further back in the mix so the "loud" ones sound "louder" by comparison? Maybe then also smashing up the kick more with compressor and distortion/saturation, and bringing the whole thing up again with a nice big mastering job. Not sure but that's probably where I would start if it were my track.

But nevertheless it is fun to listen to in its current form.

I realized I am terrible about uploading my beats to SoundCloud and am forcing myself to post stuff once a week even if it isn't "finished". Here is an original beat I wrote and I recorded a lot of the instrumentation live. I was pretty happy with how it turned out considering I mostly make sample-based stuff. Just picked up a Fender Squier JBass and have been trying to add some funky bass lines to my productions. I think this one didn't turn out half bad considering I have only been playing for a couple months.

Really digging it. I think you really nailed that Boom-Bap style.

I really recommend the "one beat a week" style. If not do what I do and upload poo poo private only. Just to feel like you get some progress. It's kinda cool going back like 18 weeks now and see how much I've evolved and what mistakes I made back then.

You could even start sampling yourself after a while - a remix of a remix of a remix of an original creation

Hey dude, I apologize. I could have sworn I posted a reply with some feedback on this because I checked it out last week but looks like I never hit submit. Thanks a lot for the feedback on my track, it is much appreciated. I am really going to try and stick to one beat a week and am actually finishing up a second track with this rapper from Canada I have been working with. I should have it done this week and will definitely share it.

I really enjoyed this track, the progression is really nice and hits you right in the feels. The style reminds me a little bit of an artist named Jai Wolf, and I mean that as a big compliment. I also really enjoy how the track isn't cluttered at all, but you have done a great job filling up the space. Honestly made me realize my mixes need a lot of work.
