I've got a new dark ambient/drone/sort-of-DS release out: https://mortwight.bandcamp.com/album/ancestor-cult A label called Attic Shrines is releasing a cassette version which should be available pretty soon in case anyone is interested. I'm really proud of this material I think it's some of my best. It was produced in part by someone else who made it sound like it had been recorded on something buried underground for a few centuries.

Apologies in advance if this isn't the appropriate thread (I'll gladly head off to wherever an appropriate location would be if so), but does anyone have an idea of the music visualizer being used in this OST video: I just really like how it looks, and want to see if I can find something similar in the number of bars and smoothness of framerate that I could put the Deltarune OST through so I can watch the bars go up and down. edit:whoops, Sorry I just realized it leads to music that is probably copyrighted (and I actually accidentally linked to another thread instead anyway). Am I even allowed to ask someone in PMs so I can know if anyone can identify the visualizer? EDIT2: Or if anyone could point out a really good thread for music visualizers (or just suggest one if they have one in mind)? thechosenone fucked around with this message at 03:31 on Dec 25, 2021 |

Oh cool then. Anyone have any idea how to find the visualizer used in this video:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sgP5jeBccfI&t=549s Video? It just seems nice (and at least in the origiy it was 60fps which looked real smooth).

I already posted this in the post-rock thread but might as well put it here too - my new album Limina is out today. It's pretty squarely in the wider post-rock umbrella but has ambient sections, noise rock influences, some psychedelic elements. Loud guitars, sampled instruments, spoken word sections, tape loops, it's everything I was doing on my last album but with more experience and IMO much more fleshed out. It took form as a sort of musical sketchbook or journal that I kept adding to for a year and this is the result. I left an Ableton session open and any time the mood struck I'd start hammering out an idea, mangle a sample, improvise something on my guitar or bass, edit something I'd already recorded, whatever sound-oriented thing I wanted to play with I'd do in this session. Eventually it started taking form and naturally moved through different moods and atmospheres depending on how I felt, what I was inspired by, or what I was doing at the time. Making a seamless album is something I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm glad I've fleshed out a process that seems to be working. I plan to keep doing it every year and to release something every January 1st that represents the past 12 months. Bandcamp: https://deanhamilton.bandcamp.com/album/limina Get a free lossless download here or subscribe to support me and get access to unmastered versions of all my music Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/0uPdFLNl6MCBQ2BVtM6FX5 Hyperfollow page for all my links: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/deanhamilton/limina Youtube for the lazy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVU4EGucD_c I also wrote up an artist commentary on RYM if that sounds like something you'd be interested in. Last week I was playing around with sampling some sounds from an old data cassette as well as an XDR toneburst. I ended up using those sampler instruments to flesh out a bit of music I'd already been working on, and the end result sounds like a discarded and poorly weathered cassette of some old video game music. https://soundcloud.com/danwarren/spaghetti-code

I wrote most of the material in the fall of 2020 and the winter of 2021 while listening to lots Thee Oh Sees, Mogwai, Hum, and The War on Drugs, but I'm also a maximalist with very primitive equipment and a longtime love for heavier sounds like Melvins and Torche. Here's a picture collage of literally everything I used to make the album: ![]() I'm not a great follower of electronic music but I've had your stuff on for the last hour or so. The sound design is great, ambient yet percussive. I'm also a sucker for atmospheric vocal samples.

Hey, thanks! I appreciate the listen! Cylindricule is actually a duo project between me and fellow goon Kilometers Davis. He supplies most of the beats and synthstruments and I do sample stuff and production, although the lines have blurred as we're working on our upcoming EP (hopefully out on 4/20 like last year's was because lol weed) Edit: Didn't mean to hit post just then. Anyhow, I thought about it some more and I think your sound kind of reminds me of LCD Soundsystem, especially "Halfway Home" evokes "All My Friends" to me. But your voice is maybe more towards Interpol? There's something to it I can't put my finger on. Even that comparison doesn't seem right. Anyhow, either way, it sounds really good and full, as I said. If production is all you, as the picture suggests, you did a great job with the sonic space. He supplies most of the beats and synthstruments and I do sample stuff and production, although the lines have blurred as we're working on our upcoming EP (hopefully out on 4/20 like last year's was because lol weed) I've been getting positive feedback about the production, which is both great and unexpected. I've been posting stuff on my Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/overnightmike) for about 3 years now and I've made progress through revision, repetition, and trial and error. All of the production was me, except for the vocals on "At A Loss" which my friend Tim Jones did from his home studio. His main project is Loose Roosters https://looseroosters.bandcamp.com/ which is a fantastic roots/country/folkgrass project based in Boone NC. A lot of the learning process with this album was about using less "per track" effects and using more effects on busses and the full mix. Every time I listen to people talk "real music production" I get lost quick, but if you go back in time a bit "put a microphone in front of a good 35 watt tube amp turn it up and play a good part" was the foundation of rock and roll, so I can't be totally off base. Nobody is talking about the microphones or multiband compressor or center channel extractor they used on "Surfin Bird." Re: LCD Soundsystem I think I share some of James Murphy's thematic concerns: aging, reckoning, being a bit maudlin, etc. The are musical similarities as well: adding on as opposed to moving from verse to chorus via chord changes, repetitive drumbeats, interplay between parts as opposed to lead/rhythm structures, and a lack of "riffs." One early note I made to myself when planning the album was "no Sabbath riffs." Got any album recommendations for someone who really liked Music Has the Right to Children but hasn't explored the genre much beyond it?

I absolutely have had a similar learning curve since working on the first Cylindricule tracks back in January 2021, which was just a Secret Santa Sample project that turned out well. I had no loving clue how to use a daw, so I was literally cutting and pasting individual samples all arduously, doing per-item FX, it was a loving shitshow. I go back to clean up some of those older tracks and groan with despair. If you mean you're looking for electronic genre recommends, I don't usually listen to anything lyrics-free but you'd probably like Baths, maybe Toro y Moi. I also enjoy TOBACCO, and Micra. STRFKR, too.

I made of mess of my previous posts. So for context for readers, I was trying to embed a SoundCloud track onto SA rather than just post a link, thought I had it, but it didn't seem to work for me. Brawnfire posted:How did you do it? I was wondering myself. I'm on my phone, all I did was go to my SoundCloud on the internet browser, not the app. Grab the url up the top and pasted into a post. Seemed to work itself out. But it wouldn't play for me, so I'll just link my SoundCloud instead. I also noticed on the desktop site of SA it's only links, and doesn't show the track the way the SA App does. Bar Patron fucked around with this message at 12:39 on Mar 29, 2022 |
