I have a song. It's called Smoke. I spent this afternoon writing the lyrics and adding singing. It's pretty much finished, I might change some things, couple little rough bits, but otherwise I'm just curious to see if anybody actually likes it, so let me know what you think. Yeah, you.

I thought it was pretty good. I think it would have fit in on the soundtrack to the game Quarantine (from 1994), and I thought the soundtrack from Quarantine kicked rear end.

i'm listening to your songs now. pretty smooth - you seem to have more musicianship and better production skills than i do for sure. it's kind of reminding me of father john misty, not that your voice sounds exactly like him or anything it's just that kind of voice presenting the mundane lyrics about following and liking. i like the ending of the great depression the best out of these three, the running guitar line under 'the way out' part is really nice.

Hehe, it's fine all in jest.

The entire song is meant to be a drudgery. Count the social issues in it. Student loans, wage stagnation, racial inequality, free speech, consumerism, government corruption. All condensed into lines that fit the Twitter character limit. And a suggestion to the audience that they are making such a difference by engaging with their social media (i.e. increasing revenue via advertising) which pays the very people keeping them down. And it is routine but essentially just a distraction in it's own right. When what we should be doing is actually getting out there as others have before.

Then I go and have to post it on the very platforms driven by likes, subscribes, follows, while essentially calling out the very people that have to engage for it to go anywhere. I called it "I, " because I am guilty of this too btw.

So I wrote an EP this march, as a reaction to certain events, but it took until much later to make a finished product (I mix slowly as hell, plus other projects demand attention), so here it is.
I don't go for any particular subgenre, but it's mainly instrumental hiphop, grime and juke/footwork DNA here in different proportions. Kept it a lean 15 minutes for tapes, shouldn't be a slog, but enough to say what it needs to.

Any feedback welcome.

While we're at it, my previous EP could also be worth checking out! It's a different beast, inspired by a whole other set of lovely events. Fifteen minutes of me going hog wild on a synth over a sort of biomechanical boom bap. I sure was in a place when I made that.

I made this, it's not finished, still need to do vocals and actual production, but it's getting there nicely.
https://soundcloud.com/syntaxfunction/attackdecay

It's mainly synths, samples, keyboard and programming, with a backwards guitar solo and some distorted guitars for flavour. Heavily inspired by trip hop artists like Massive Attack, jazz weirdos like Tom Waits, and some of my usual 90s alt-rock stuff for fun.

I've been incredibly sick and as a result have changed how I make music. I primarily make guitar-focused music, and while I still use them in songs and also write with them I also bought a keyboard (it's very nice) and it's kind of pivoted a lot of how I write.

Edit:
Also gently caress y'all are so good at this.

I like who you've listed as your inspirations and your tracks sound pretty docious. if you wouldn't mind collaborating, I wouldn't either - my voice has been compared to the way Tom Waits' does on (in?) Hell Broke Luce. Massive Attack is alright, and Jazz is roses- do you like The Lounge Lizards?

We use similar instrumentation (I started out making guitar-only tracks, added piano, then got blessed with a DAW that contains a wide array of instruments), so I think that our sensibilities might gel.

Here's one of my piano tracks; I ruined the EQ, but the bones are still there:

https://open.spotify.com/track/6FhDlq8wv8zgmu4Pa60zQx?si=nTbrWHatQVua16nn4URkkg&utm_source=copy-link

Just sharing those in case you need to hear some of my work before you make a decision.

I also have over 400 guitar-only tracks (grouped into albums complete with ID3 Tags and album artwork) that we could edit into more intricate pieces. I used to release them on Facebook through Mediafire links - I can send you a link to one of the albums if you'd like to take a crack at beefing it up. They were kinda popular when first released, so I figure that updating them wouldn't be just a fun waste of time.

I hope that I'm not coming on strong - I'm effortlessly passionate when it comes to music and other forms of art. Makes me give off an uncomfortable amount of heat, lol. I hope you understand.

Regardless of your decision with regards to whether or not you want to collaborate, I wish you God Luck & Goodspeed.

Take care.

Although my primary album themes are usually either Hardcore Gospel, Death Metal, Punk, or Grindcore (I like to call it DisasterGrind, haha), I have tracks that erase the divide between Rap and Metal.

The lyrics/vocals are often lighthearted stories of, or musings on times I spent with my ex girlfriends. They're typically delivered through (and humorously contrasted by) Death Metal/Grind inspired growls, unchill screams/yells, singing, and other fun vocal styles.

The instrumentals sometimes consist of Rap beats I found on YouTube, but sometimes they're
original.

Sometimes I get unorthodox with the instruments; I made this track's
beat with a gun and a chest of drawers.

I just released a new synthpop/punk/new wave EP about the ongoing global pandemic everyone forgot: https://faustbot.bandcamp.com/album/the-covid-ep

Unlike previous releases, I completely eschewed guitars and focused entirely on programmed instruments. Covid knocked me out completely for two weeks to the point I couldn't play a live instrument, so I used that as a restriction.

Song topics all loop back to covid, but range from personal experience, informative, and fictional narratives, with my wife calling Sneak a Peek in particular, "loving gross."

It's available now at the Bandcamp link above, and will be streaming as soon as those services decide to take it live.
