Genre: ambient, krautrock, experimental, space rock, jams, improvisation Throwback to 2020, when the pandemic was starting, me and an online friend decided to try out Ninjam for collaborative jamming online. Over time, this grew into a series of livestreamed jam sessions that are neatly available here. I also made a habit of trying to pick out some outtakes from the jams to build into Real Tracks, and after some time, we managed to put together a first album of the stand-alone tracks. EDIT: got distracted but I gotta say I really like this. you alternate between a solid doom (band) themed punk influence in my mind before leaning into solidly produced metalcore in the end. I really dig it. any tips you can share for a fellow synth player as to how best fit a synth into hardcore? if it makes it any easier I play a PSR-36, usually hooked up to a multi-fx pedal. Most of what the synth is doing is monophonic and just the root of the chords. The synth itself is pretty distorted and growly so it's mostly just filling the guitar range out more and reinforcing the hormonic structure. There are a few sections like the chorus of Vile that move around more and those are basic monophonic arpeggios. There are a few other bits here and there with other instruments, like the brass on No Rest. Most of the time with hardcore I'd probably just keep it to the root in the middle of the keyboard range with a lead sound - not as high as a lead part, but not in the bass either. For a chorus you could do big block chords, or do soft pads on a bridge. Here in Philly like 20 years ago there was a moment for punk bands with synths, with The Low Budgets (Joe Jack from Dead Milkmen on keys) and Ten Tons Of Kill You, the latter of who have unfortunately disappeared off the internet.
