Figure I'll throw my hat in the ring. I have a few projects running but only one "EP" released, under the name Vapid Koi. I guess you'd call it lo-fi?

https://vapidkoi.bandcamp.com/releases

The story behind it is I had the progression for the first song done, showed my partner and he recommended I work on it. At that time I ran out of anti-psychotics and wasn't able to get more for a while. So I slowly began to suffer a schizophrenic breakdown. I worked on each track sequentially, with the first track being done first and so on. As the EP progresses you can tell I started to have an obsession with textures and repeating the same thing over and over.

Overall I am proud of what I accomplished, especially since it is THE sound of a mental breakdown for me. I do not ever want to go through it again though.

I dig

I circuit-bend, make field recordings, and creepy beats. Then I mix 'em all up to make what Warren Ellis once described as "It's midnight, something's not right, and strange things are coming out of your mp3 player."

I've currently got (counts).... holy moly, fourteen albums/EPs on Bandcamp, so hopefully you'll find something you'll like! If you're not sure where the hell to start, I'd say try Ononharoia. Or, the newest pair just came out two days ago, Lazarus taxa 1 & 2.

Speaking of distributors, anyone know how long it takes for anything to show from Amazon? It's been months and I haven't seen anything show from there yet.

Depends on your distributor but it's usually one of the quicker ones. I decided to drop a release a week out and things were distributed on time to Amazon and everywhere else when I wanted it

Sorry, I mean for Amazon to pay out. I'm using Distrokid if that makes a difference.

Ahh, that's even more distributor specific and could range from a month, to quarter, to having to meet a certain threshold. We get paybouts from Amazon on a monthly basis but that probably won't help since we don't use Distrokid

Thanks friend! I'm trapped on endless plane rides again and haven't had a chance to get caught up on your new stuff yet but will (and the others) once things get back to normal

JacquelineDempsey posted:

Wow, that's really good! Everything from the synths to the vocals.... your Bandcamp cites Depeche Mode and New Order as influences, and it was right there, I thought that before I even read that. Well done! My husband's a big 80's synthpop guy, can't wait to play it for him when he gets home.

Out of curiosity, do you get people buying the whole discography package, and how did you come up with a price? I've been considering doing a deep-discount deal and offering that for all of my 15 albums/EPs on Bandcamp.

(Also do you tour? I'm in Virginia and know some promoters who might get in on booking you, since you're "right up the road", relatively speaking)

Thanks! 100% disco packages are worth doing imo especially if you have as many releases as you do. A large number of folks discover stuff and then decide to buy it all. Bandcamp offers to give discounts from a drop down. Something like no discount, 5%, 15%, 25%, and maybe 35%. I think I went with the one they recommended?

Yes, we tour! Due to our industry ties, we usually do things at friends bars rather than the more traditional route, as neither of us have many connections in the live music scene. I'd offer the same, but you can probably do Dr Clocks (or what the new place is) fairly easy on your own. I miss the noise/ebm/industrial scene

So I listened to a whole buncha stuff last night as promised --- holy crap! We should put out a goon compilation album. I'll help mix it down to normalized volume levels and do album art, set up a Bandcamp so we can share any monies coming in.

BUT... my cat is dying. He's 17 years old and has the cancer, so it's a matter of days until I make that horrible call to that last trip to the vet. So I'm a bit of a wreck, but I wanted to thank you all for giving me something to distract myself with while I go through this.

Anyways, here's a song/video featuring him, Fitz, aka "Tubby" because pre-cancer he was a total "oh lawd he's comin'" sized cat. I adopted him from a shelter in 2003. The track is chopped almost entirely from a kids' vinyl LP called "Tubby the Tuba", which had scratches all over it and skipped exactly on beat, much to my delight --- and the fact that I called Fitz "Tubby" as a nickname.

I'm slowly working my way backwards thru the thread... I'm listening to all y'all (when not working on my own poo poo)!

I'll be frank: not my cup of tea genre-wise, but I can appreciate some quality production/mixing/composition, and you got that in spades, friend.

This is a bit more up my alley, and also nicely mixed and interesting to follow. My husband liked it, too! Actual conversation:

: What are we listening to?
Goon stuff. It's Drink-Mix Man.
...
He does really funny photoshops, too!
... I'll take your word for it. I do like this, though.

Ah, the goon vs. non-goon relationship.

I'm poor and have no money but if you want to do a good compilation and take some of my tracks for a cause go for it
