You are an odd fellow, but I must say... you throw a swell shindig.

Did a little funky instrumental. It's somewhat unlike my usual ambient music, could definitely use a little crit.

I tried desperately to mix it into something that punches you in the face the way I wanted to, but I have a lot of learning to do yet.

I'm not sure one what grounds to evaluate the first one, except to say I think I liked the simplest parts best. The second one was really fun. The electric piano sounded especially nice in the mix. I think I can envision in my head that big sound that you're going for that you feel you didn't quite get. I'm not necessarily a pro at this myself, but just taking a guess at what you need to do, maybe it's a matter of building more dynamic range into it? Setting some of the instruments further back in the mix so the "loud" ones sound "louder" by comparison? Maybe then also smashing up the kick more with compressor and distortion/saturation, and bringing the whole thing up again with a nice big mastering job. Not sure but that's probably where I would start if it were my track.

But nevertheless it is fun to listen to in its current form.

I realized I am terrible about uploading my beats to SoundCloud and am forcing myself to post stuff once a week even if it isn't "finished". Here is an original beat I wrote and I recorded a lot of the instrumentation live. I was pretty happy with how it turned out considering I mostly make sample-based stuff. Just picked up a Fender Squier JBass and have been trying to add some funky bass lines to my productions. I think this one didn't turn out half bad considering I have only been playing for a couple months.

This is the newest I completed this morning. That makes track 5.

I will get back to Tangerine Dream/Vangelis style music on the next one.

Edit: I changed this one up a little. If you checked it out before 7:30PM Eastern, please try it again. I felt it was missing something and I added some poo poo.

Not what I expected when you said "dance" but I like it. I was going to say I was getting some coastal highway imagery when I listened to it, then I saw the title, so good job. Can't help but see pixelated palm trees going by.

I like how this one turned out. It was inspired by a repair job that took way too long and didn't go well, and I still had to drive for over two hours to get back home.

I feel like this appropriately conveys the feeling of experiences like that.

I have put about 16 beats together and am planning on releasing them as a "beat tape" once I finish the mixing/mastering. I wanted to share one of them for some feedback on the mix, but didn't know if this was the best place to share it. There doesn't seem to be a thread in ML for reviewing tracks that gets any traffic but let me know if you'd rather see this kinda thing elsewhere.

There are some things I think could be improved on this mix, but not sure if I am being objective since I have heard it so many times.

I think the overall mix sounds pretty good, especially the drums and bass. My critique would be about the piano and toms sounding a little too quantized for my tastes.

My issue is that the flute part went on for quite some time. I thought there wasn't going to be anything more until the big synths at the end. I almost didn't listen to the whole thing.

Haha, a bunch of feedback I got before I posted this said "make the flute more prominent." Maybe I went too far in that direction. It used to be more subtle in the mix and the pads used to be more prominent, maybe I'll keep trying to find the middle ground.

Good luck with DAW chat, I record into Audition and treat it like a tape machine. I was reminicing about my old Tascam 4 track that I sold off a decade or so ago and have discovered that I should not have sold it when I did because they are fetching huge prices nowadays.

Good stuff as usual. I like the jam toward the end especially.

Posted this elsewhere as well, but I just put out my first tape release today on a little label. It's mostly tracks I've posted around NMD over the last couple years ago with a nice mastering job. Upbeat, melodic electronic instrumentals. Inspired by a variety of retro styles. Sorta soundtracky. Tape comes with optional bag of coffee!
