I made an album of noisy/industrial-ish/doomy/vaguely post rock-ish sounds and I'm pretty happy with it. It's sometimes loud, sometimes spacey, abrasive, and repetitive. The middle four tracks are the meat of the album which started as one monster track with several different sections and builds. I might tinker with this again at some point if I find a vocalist but for now I'm calling it done. No final names for anything yet so here's the music with working titles: https://soundcloud.com/sonoritygradient/sets/titanous internet celebrity fucked around with this message at 04:26 on Mar 18, 2019 |

Jonny Nox posted:Hey actual factual post-rock in 2019! Very very Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Thanks, that's exactly what I'm going for - kind of a mishmash of 90s Godspeed You style sampling and instrumentation with the drone and aggression of 2010s Swans.

After spending way too much time agonizing about what name to release my stuff under (god drat it's hard to name yourself without sounding like a tryhard cheeseball) I decided to just use my name so here we go. My first official EP release, Cylinder, is streaming on Spotify (and most other major streaming platforms here). I make instrumental drony/noisy/post-rock-ish kind of stuff with some light sampling. I like to think of it as a soundtrack for a thing that doesn't exist - basically I'm aping 1990s Godspeed You and 2010s Swans.

Since I ended up getting really good feedback on my last project I decided to continue with that sound and see where it takes me. I've got another tentative track finished and privately uploaded for preview/feedback on Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/user-927987433/soulscape-work-in-progress-992019/s-vZKc6 I guess I'd call it post-rock but it has elements of noise, drone, dark ambient, and probably some other stuff but I suck at genres. I'm approaching it as a soundtrack without a movie - think mid 90s Swans or Godspeed You. Feel free to drop a critique on the composition or mixing - thanks for listening!

Speaking of distributors, anyone know how long it takes for anything to show from Amazon? It's been months and I haven't seen anything show from there yet.

2DCAT posted:Depends on your distributor but it's usually one of the quicker ones. I decided to drop a release a week out and things were distributed on time to Amazon and everywhere else when I wanted it Sorry, I mean for Amazon to pay out. I'm using Distrokid if that makes a difference.

Working on the second half of my post-rock/drone/'loving around with noise' album, would appreciate some thoughts on where it's heading https://soundcloud.com/user-927987433/sets/cylinder-part-2-work-in Part 1 here if you're curious.

Jonny Nox posted:This is super old, but are you on bandcamp somewhere I can't find? I'd like to buy your album (I'll likey grab a couple of Khate's too if I do) and the new one too once it's done. Whoa thanks, I really appreciate that! I've been considering that first part a demo until the rest is finished so I'm not on bandcamp or really making any kind of publicity push until then. My goal is to have enough material to fill an LP and do a super small run for me and some friends/family so if that's your thing I'll be posting about it here when it happens.

Hi thread, like all of us I've had some spare time so I'm back at work on my apocalyptic post-rocky thing I've been working on and I think I'm finally happy enough with these two tracks to move on so this is what's likely to appear on the final version. Kind of worried that the spoken word samples are too cheesy and that the individual sections don't have enough room to breathe but if you listen let me know what you think. I'll be splitting this into 2 tracks around the 8 minute mark but as I work on it it's just one massive track so that's what I've uploaded here. https://soundcloud.com/user-927987433/rust-and-ruin-part-2/s-CElgcLZ6WXY

Hey I've finally finished the last track for my (drony, noisy, post-rockish, basically Swans worship) album, now to go through the process of trying to figure out how to commission art for commercial use and actually release this thing. Side note, if there's a guide anywhere that walks musicians with zero business sense through the "i finished my album, now what?" point in the process I'd love to take a look at it. Anyway, here's a rough mix of the track and I'm real proud of it. https://soundcloud.com/user-927987433/untitled/s-7LQjvKrqLRJ And here's a playlist of the album in order: https://soundcloud.com/user-927987433/sets/rust-and-ruin/s-zuU7ozN5FwH

Greatly appreciate the kind words! I've been tweaking the mix/master and the most recent version is here for your hi-fi listening pleasure. Also I will definitely keep you in mind for art once I figure some other stuff out (i.e. what name am I releasing this as, what are the final titles of everything, oh god I have to make a ton of social media accounts, etc), I think your style seems pretty fitting for my sound. Hey at least OMNISCIENT OMNIPOTENT OMNIVOROUS is better than PUBLIC CASTRATION IS A GOOD IDEA so it could be worse. Or better, your call. e: Also you make super dope noises, I just skimmed through some of it to get an idea but I'll definitely be diving in later. Any suggestion for an album to start with? internet celebrity fucked around with this message at 13:40 on Apr 22, 2020 |

My album is out today! I posted the first three tracks as an EP a while back but I ended up expanding it into a full thing. Think loud, dark, and repetitive noise rock with GYBE style spoken word sampling and a slight obsession with radio towers. Spotify/streaming is still processing for release but it's up on Bandcamp here: https://deanhamilton.bandcamp.com/album/encoded-in-dead-air

Working on some new material, got a little snippet here: https://soundcloud.com/user-927987433/somnium-snippet Someone said my last album didn't let its ideas fully develop and pay off and with the power of hindsight I completely agree, I was a bit underconfident in everything so I probably bounced from idea to idea too often. Not this time, everything is going to have ample breathing room. I've already deleted way more material than I've recorded at this point so hopefully this release will end up feeling fully realized and more consistent.

I already posted this in the post-rock thread but might as well put it here too - my new album Limina is out today. It's pretty squarely in the wider post-rock umbrella but has ambient sections, noise rock influences, some psychedelic elements. Loud guitars, sampled instruments, spoken word sections, tape loops, it's everything I was doing on my last album but with more experience and IMO much more fleshed out. It took form as a sort of musical sketchbook or journal that I kept adding to for a year and this is the result. I left an Ableton session open and any time the mood struck I'd start hammering out an idea, mangle a sample, improvise something on my guitar or bass, edit something I'd already recorded, whatever sound-oriented thing I wanted to play with I'd do in this session. Eventually it started taking form and naturally moved through different moods and atmospheres depending on how I felt, what I was inspired by, or what I was doing at the time. Making a seamless album is something I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm glad I've fleshed out a process that seems to be working. I plan to keep doing it every year and to release something every January 1st that represents the past 12 months. In honor of Bandcamp Friday I'm going to shamelessly repost a couple of things, hope that's okay. This is my first release from 2021, it's an instrumental post-rock album about spirits trapped in broadcast signals: https://deanhamilton.bandcamp.com/album/encoded-in-dead-air This is my second from earlier this year, it's a seamless instrumental post-rock album about feeling the thresholds of day to day life dissolving and turning everything into one grey pile of constant anxiety: https://deanhamilton.bandcamp.com/album/limina
