Well the men have a national draft.

If there was a COLA for the aflw and a decent pay rise (eg: 45k base rate per season for a 3 month season and 3 month preseason) the Draft could go national without too many complications, especially as the league grows younger as older players retire and the only new players coming into the system are draftees without existing careers or uni courses to worry about relocating.

Crows and GWS have the best pools avalible solely to themselves, although crows come out ahead because afl is more prominent in SA and NT than in NSW, especially for women.

Sydney haven't been able to have a team because they lack training facilities but the club announced at the end of last season a new training base so once that is built they can have a womens team. They have an academy at the moment afaik.

A few suspensions lined up for AFLW. Two game suspension as an early plea is a big deal. more than a quarter of the season.

Tayla Harris gets off scot free, Tegan Cunningham will probably still miss over a quarter of the season

Well she was reprimanded, so not scot free as she now has 'demerit points'.

I think it was a fair bump given the circumstance. Harris crouched down into the bump to avoid high contact and they'd have had front of collision if she didn't decide to bump. Harris also helped Randall up off the ground right after and made sure she was okay before the free kick against was taken. Randall also got up holding her shoulder, not her head.

Was it the correct decision? Who knows with Micheal Christen.

A better argument would be why is AFLX being played in Melbourne, the home of afl?

Why isn't it being played in London, Munich, Rio, New York, LA? Places that love sport and have the rectangle grounds it can be played on. If you want to capture an international market you've got to play the exhibition games there. Which is why the VFL in the 70s and 80s played games in London and LA.

Oh yeah for sure.

But the AFL pushed AFLX as a game to play overseas where they have soccer pitches instead of ovals. They went ahead and made it real using the excuse of overseas markets as the reason it exists.

aflx is trash but what is hilarious is someone hosed up bigtime, they have boundary side greenscreen advertising which is obviously awful but sadly one teams colour is green so they're invisible when they run along the boundary.

AFL9s exists if you have limited space or player numbers.

The AFL doesn't care about overseas growth because they don't care about the International Cup every few years which can help grow the presence of the game overseas at the grassroots level.

AFLX is just a way to get a few extra dollars out of a few new advertisers/sponsors and make some money for everyone.

What an infuriating game that was.

Umps need to be shot, so many lovely calls and two very weak 50m penalties paid to geelong.

Harris just had a poo poo day, 4 shots on goal, two hit the post and two others behinds.

And then when Vescio kicked a goal from advantage the ump had his back turned and called the ball back. Would have won that game with that goal counting.

Bring proper umpires into aflw so the girls learn the correct way to play, instead of knowing they can throw the ball and get away with it.

Yep, every aflw game should have 1 afl level umpire officiating the match. They're not busy since they're doing mems preseason games and the aflw matches are shorter so they can't complain.

The non-calls in the cats v blues match were awful for both teams but Carlton wereawarded a free kick inside 50 and played on and Vescio scored a goal, except the umpire had his back turned so it was struck down and the freekick taken again, hitting the post.

That cost us the game in the end, along with other misses.

In any other game the advantage there is upheld by one of the other field umpires looking at the play. The goal umpire had to explain to the officiating ump what had happened behind his back and was ready to signal a goal.

Blocking/filling space. They don't have to be in the way, but being in the background of a players vision they can easily force someone to kick in another direction thinking that area isn't empty enough.

It always happened during kick ins, runners standing just outside the 50m arcs filling space while slowly walking to the boundary. You don't see it much on tv but when you're sitting up high at a game you see runners dicking around all the time.

Good decision to remove them. Instead of using boards (or in addition) a fix would be to remove the interchange cap and let players come off for 2 minutes for a rest and instruction. Why should the interchange be capped at 90 or whatever it is? let it be 150 and watch players get less tired when they can come off the field for awhile.

Yes clubs didn't want to be forced to wear them.

All home teams this round would have worn them but clubs told the afl to cut that poo poo out, so it just became the two home teams playing the doubleheader at docklands today wear them as warmup tops.

Also lol at the bulldogs, had two players out of position at the start of the game, listed as starting on the bench so the game was delayed until they had the correct team list starting the match.
