I also picked up Reign of the Hunters. Decided it was over average when the MC was exceedingly proud of using her amazing foreknowledge to gain a skill that allows her to skip NPC dialog.

The main suspension of disbelief is that such a bad and badly managed mmo wouldn't get laughed out of town in international competition.

Are there any modern isekai manga already completed? I feel like every time I read a recommendation it ends just when it starts getting interesting.
I was going to say, there are a few. But then I remembered that they all are novels and not manga. And even those are quite rare.

The list if anybody cares: "Katahane no Riku", "I’m Back in the Other World?", "Dragon’s Bloodline", and also some honorable isekai : "The Heavily Armoured Noble Girl Monette" and "The Legend of Sun Knight".

Sun Knight is the only one that even has a manga adoption, and it (or at least the translation) stops very quickly. I still would totally recommend both versions to this thread. Though, like most long stories, it runs out of good ideas after a few volumes.
Monette is the other recommendable one. The jokes stay funny thfough the whole length.
And of course Katahane no Riku has a pretty unique starting hook: The MC is reincarnated as the sister (and haremmember) of a dating game hero. The hero is also a reincarnator and banishes the sister from the kingdom because he isn't into incest. But the story runs out of good jokes halfway through the runtime.

"Breaking Off the Engagement… Bring it on!" is updating again.
It is a pretty fun story. The prince breaks of his engagement with the MC, and she is quite happy. Then the story starts tumbling sideways through sub-genres. The new updates finally finished the tournament arc. Though it is also one of those "barely technically not isekai" stories.

There are lots of bad isekais in that category, most of them are pure porn.

And most good ones have the mc almost forget that she had a different gender originally.
Here are those that I remember offhand as good:

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/im-back-in-the-other-world/

There is also that "so bad I can't look away" story. Where the MC takes over 50 chapters to finish toilet training, but manages to molest all the maids by chapter 60.

So, I've got a question for people who have read a lot of (translated) LN/WNs. How does the writing not drive you insane? Actually, are there any recommendations of decent isekai with actual good translations, since maybe I've just found bad ones?

I don't know if it's because the sentence structure doesn't translate well, or if all the translators are just running things through google translate and then making a half-assed editing pass and calling it good, but every internet* translation I've ever read was absolutely horrible. Even the ones that seem like an actual human being translated them are full of stilted sentences and what I suspect are untranslated puns. Which is the pity since sometimes I just want to read a lighthearted litrpg story or whatever, and the overarching concepts are often kind of interesting.

*The only professional translation I ever read was picking up the first volume of reincarnated as a vending machine off of Amazon out of curiosity, and it seemed to have perfectly decent writing, but maybe they had an actual author re-write it in English.
I grew up reading "professional" German translations of fantasy books. They are just as bad and stilted in their own way.

I had to look up which one this was, and death mage is pretty fascinating in its thoughtless earnesty.
I stopped reading a bit after this scene, which stuck in my mind:

Our hero is 3 years old, sitting around, and gets attacked by two normal adult reincarnators.
He is notoriously hated and ignored by the gods, so his power is always described as extremely weak. And all those reincarnaters have multiple clearly OP powers.
In fact it he so weak that he has to get up from his chair in order to kill the two attackers.
The scene is written so earnestly that I am absolutely sure that the author feels utterly unable to engage in that kind of heroic effort under any circumstances.

I am a bit sad because I have lost an excuse for recommending Sekai Maou. Previously it was the closest thing to an isekai that is good and finished.

Actually, the "Sister of a summoned saint does home cooking" manga is also a finished isekai. I almost forgot about it, and can't look up the name while mangadex is down.

e: And of course the best isekai ever is also technically finished, as it is a oneshot. I mean the one by the Hinamatsuri author.

There is that really dumb and bad one about a naked loli elf. Kuishinbo Elf.

It has a few amazingly good chapters near the beginning where she ends up using her healing magic talent working in a hospital, while there is a massive war against the demon army. The war is lead by summoned hero with actual fighting talent.

Then after the arc is over the story becomes boring and generic quickly.

I actually will say that the story is not currently necessarily racist, due to the reaction of the MC to the situation. She calls out the (fantasy) racists, after all.

And there is a theoretical chance that the manga avoids making the jump from depicting racism to being racist. I am not getting my hopes up too far, tho.

The extremely long and pornographic one came close to that. But the villainesses only met up after they all had independently avoided their bad ends and they ended fighting and saving one who failed and became evil or something. Name is I Don't Want to Become Crown Princess!!.
It think there are also a few other stories where it suddenly turns out that every country in the region has a reincarnator running around.

I think I read part of the webnovel, and yes the revolution angle goes nowhere as usual.
But, there are a lot of manga with those hints of revolution. But, at best they treat peasant revolutions as indistinguishable from noble coups and normal royal succession.
