They definitely went way too hard on making this the start of a new thing seeing as they don't resolve anything in regards to the evil organization.

Personally I kept expecting them to reveal it as Ryan Reynolds because it definitely sounded like they used him for the voice and that seems like a pretty normal twist.

Also (end spoilers) there's no way that Idris Elba's character is actually dead and isn't coming back for the sequel.

With all the macho posturing both behind the scenes and in front of the camera it would not surprise me to find out that the romance subplot was shoehorned in to make it clear that the Rock definitely had a case of the not gays.
