so do yall think Tyson can beat Jake Paul even with the rules about the 18oz gloves and the headguard? I don't know about the gloves, I assume that makes the punches less hard?

I had assumed there would be rules in Jake's favor, is this a big handicap or not much?

i heard they handicapped the fight about 30 years

those are essentially sparring rules. the gloves have more padding so they do less damage but they also weigh more (which in turn also provides more resistance for working out and building up stamina but also means your punches lose power over time due to exhaustion).

it's to keep them from hurting each other in any significant or long-lasting way; both of them are likely used to boxing in those conditions

edit: and by likely i mean almost certainly

The speed difference is significant. I bet you could get commission approved gloves custom made that have all the extra padding off the knuckles so they still land like 10oz ones.

yeah i mean probably but is it even worth it at that point

like, i don't think tyson's hand speed at 57 in 10 vs. 18 is making the difference between a knockout and going the distance, especially in headgear

FWIW, Paul said there's not going to be head gear.

Thurman pulled out of the fight with Tim Tszyu and they’re replacing him with SEBASTIAN FUNDORA which is a much, much better fight.

Hopefully this means they’ll also cut the price or something because now I’m actually interested in buying it

You’d think Liam Wilson would have learned stall tactics like taking a knee or spitting out the mouth piece after his last fight but apparently he can’t even keep a tactic as simple as the jab in his head for more than 4 rounds so I guess it was inevitable. Oscar Valdez stays doing his little Canelo impression which sort of strikes me as not the best tactical choice for him but it strikes his opponents as big counter shots leading to stoppages so what can I say really.

Estrada unified the decision against Valle in a fight that I felt was too close for me to really track. Honestly I don’t really like the way Estrada fights, I think her stance kind of sucks and she sort of gives away a chunk of each round. She chooses to be unorthodox and pick off shots with talent, which is an a side way to fight but I just don’t think she’s really good enough at it to completely forgo technique. Like why was she switching stances all over the place there? It wasn’t helping. Valle was walking down with some good but very basic technique and was giving her all sorts of problems. Women’s fights always have weird cadence cause of the two minute rounds, you get the sense that maybe Valle would have had a better path to victory with another minute each round.

I'm assuming the whole thing is rigged, because neither Paul ever steps in a ring with someone who can/will actually hurt them.

I'm guessing (hoping) the crowd picks up on this and starts booing Tyson. Then Jake Paul dies.

Tyson hasn't always acted rationally in the ring, but I'm still more worried about finding out he's "suddenly" an old man.

Same, think you and me even talked about it. That said, Zhang did manage to put Parker on his rear end twice, and contrary to what some people will try to tell you, they weren't just "flash knockdowns" or because he was "off balance." He was pretty visibly hurt from the knockdowns, but he was able to survive and stop Zhang from having successful followup.

Sure, some people might say it's because he came into this fight a bit out of shape, since while he was just four pounds heavier than in September he did seem to be a bit flabbier. But even if that's a factor it isn't the whole reason why he couldn't finish him off the two times he had him in trouble. Parker's movement is what saved him from being another clip in Zhang's highlight reel. Wilder's movement is pretty trash, definitely not on par with Parker, so I feel like Zhang will be able to stop him like he did Joyce. Especially since this is the same Wilder who on two different occasions was knocked down with a single shot from Tyson Fury by the end of the third round. Fury ain't exactly known for his one shot power, with most of his knockouts coming from accumulation more than anything else (unless you're Dillian Whyte and allergic to uppercuts), so if he can knock Wilder down with one shot, Zhang can prolly put him out completely. That's not even taking into account how garbage Wilder was last time out, and the possibility he's just doing this for a Saudi payday.

All that being said, if he can somehow weather the storm, I could see him taking out a very tired Zhang in the later rounds, or maybe even winning on points. Or hell, depending on the referee, Wilder could do one of his trademark windmills on Zhang's gloves and the referee still decides to stop it because he's bad at his job. Can't rule that out these days.

Either way, I'm picking Zhang for an early stoppage. He put Joyce out in 3, Wilder's been knocked down by Fury in three in two fights, so I'll go with that. Zhang KO 3.

Can someone explain to me what the situation with Ryan Garcia is? I've seen clips of him recently looking coked out of his mind, slurring, and acting generally weird.

Is he just doing drugs and losing it, or is there something else going on? I find it hard to believe this dude is about to fight Devin Haney.

unless I've mixed up interviews he's the guy who bounced from golden boy because the gym was too hollywood and he needed to get back to his roots and well the interviews pretty much explain themselves. I liked him as a fighter but he's visibly going off the deep end and seems drugged so probably the case of too many drugs

I think he’s got bipolar. He divorced (or was divorced by) his wife a few months ago and hasn’t seemed normal since. There’s a video going around purporting to show him being married to a porn star a few days ago.

To me it smells more like manic episode than drugs but I’m not a doctor or anything. I’ve also heard his family has somehow limited his ability to access his money, which also seems like a mental health thing

Yeah, it very much seems like a mental health episode is at the core of it. Drugs could totally be involved to, but whatever is going on is spearheaded by him going nuts.
