ok work friendos, i need some help. because i work for myself and clearly need some color advice. i'm getting ready to pull a warp (the threads you put onto a loom, called "beaming on a warp") so i can beam on a set of 12 blankets. the warp needs to be about 36 yards long to account for 2.66 yards per blanket, plus loom waste, fringe and accounting for shrinkage after washing and fulling. the warp needs to be at least 64" wide, again to account for shrinkage, loom waste, selvedges and warping it for double cloth (so I can fit it onto my 90cm wide 12 shaft loom). if you were making plaid blankets, would you: 1. follow a traditional tartan pattern (currently considering the crawford tartan for reasons)  2. follow a more spring-like madras style plaid:  the blankets will be warped in 100% wool from my sheep, and likely the weft will be a matching wool/mohair blend also from my sheep and goats. i have already dyed up over 275 pounds and spun it all and it will be a little heavier than shirting weight wool, so it will be good all-seasons blankets. ideas? eta: live the dream and work for yourself, kids, where you never get a day off, you work 20 hours a day and your health insurance is nonexistent without paying out the rear end or staying married to your ex-spouse just for the insurance! also give up on a social life!!!!

hmm I think if I were making blankets as you say, and making them for sale, I'd try to make whatever pattern is more likely to sell/will get the highest price unfortunately I don't know what the market demand actually is, so I can only go by my own reactions the springlike madras is lovely but when I think spring I think "hopefully warm(er) weather and I don't need heavy wool blankets," whereas the tartan says to me "snuggle up to ward off the highland chill" but don't go by me please

Slightly heavier than a cotton or linen bedsheet. Hmm. Maybe I'll do half and half. The Crawford is pretty niche but appropriate because The Company lol.
