Keep in mind I know nothing of online gaming tournaments. But I remember being 14 and a few dudes liked cs and then being 18 and everyone loved cod. I think pro counter strike is bigger than pro cod: https://www.esportsearnings.com/tournaments/largest-overall-prize-pools The biggest cod tournaments paid more than the biggest cs tournaments, but there are very very few cod tournaments compared to cs

Caesar Saladin posted:what? i just don't want chess players to call themselves "athletes," which they do not. I mean Go is a way better board game and is far more difficult than chess and more worthy of this type of respect, but honestly it's just different types of skills entirely. Having good reflexes, aim, building, and game sense in fortnite for example are all just so different from the skills required to play a game of Go that a linear comparison is totally worthless. Things don't need to be ranked on some kind of ladder system where one thing is the best and is the only right answer. I'm equally impressed by watching a 9P go player play as I am watching a really great player stream fortnite, personally.

The only tournament game I find watchable is PUBG. I enjoy their backend that lets the announcers zoom around and show all the squads converging on each other. It's slow moving enough that the tension builds up perfectly and it's not just a bunch of dudes corner peeking the same room an entire match.

if this kid is making 6 figures by the time he's 19, it'll all be worth it. Otherwise he should be perfectly fine doing factory work (the serious carpal tunnel syndrome notwithstanding) tbh this was my life when i was 14 or 15, but i was grinding slave zero speedruns like a real esporter

This is definitely the fault of video games and not the fault of parents who withdrew him from school due to truancy and bring him dinner at the Internet cafe, then shovel it into his mouth while he’s playing.

E-sports is a marketing buzzword. Anything can be a sport so long as it's in some way competitive and there's a prize involved. As e-sports dont involve actual athletics calling e-sports players athletes is dumb Just call them players or pros or whatever imho
