This thread has enlightened me, for now I can not laugh at a joke until the person telling the joke has come up with a serious solution to the sheer absurdity of the situation they are explaining to me.

I'm of the general belief that a prison system should focus on being rehabilitative rather than punitive so the death penalty is on some realm of beyond "hosed up" for me. Especially since people might be innocent. At the same time though, this just ends up in a depressing cycle of "Oh poo poo, our prison system is really loving broken" into "Oh poo poo, our mental health system is even more hosed up" and so on. It is extremely depressing that when you tug onto any lovely thread of society, you start to see how it got there and how connected it is to all other lovely threads of society.
