Please try to keep embedded videos past the OP to one to keep the thread from bogging down browsers too hard, and edit out embeds from quotes for the same reason.

post your favorite video game trailer, the trailer that got you hyped up the most, or piqued your interest in one of your favorite games of all time, or just the one you still get all tingly over even watching it now, or ones you really just like the production values or composition of.

For me, that'd probably be the Breath of the Wild 2017 E3 Direct trailer. The music for it is so phenomenal that, while I understand why it wouldn't really fit in the game proper, still I wish was in there somewhere, like maybe the credits or a bonus thing. But still, holy poo poo, that loving trailer. I still get chills.

and for a total blast from the past, I remember downloading this Super Robot Wars MX Preview "trailer" of a showcase of every series included in it and some of the attacks, the intro, etc in glorious 240p back in like 2003 on Kazaa or another similar filesharing program. I still have the original video file, somewhere, but this is much higher quality. I had never heard of this series until a friend told me to download that video and check it out, and eventually I got the GBA games because of it and had a fantastic time with them. Shame the rest of the series never made it to the US due to the series itself being a licensing nightmare.

Can't talk about trailers and general video game reveals without talking about the Zelda reveal at E3 2004.

All made better by the way the audience was losing their poo poo. I know I was when I watched it later. I adored Wind Waker, but seeing Zelda with those "high-quality" more realistic graphics was mind blowing. Still gets me excited 15 years later.
I remember being excited for it but the trailer totally faceplanting with BLADES WILL BLEEEEEED which felt like such a "oh god we're sorry for Wind Waker(the better game) this one will be hardcore give us another chance!", but yeah, I get you. It did look super good at the time.

One trailer that got me pumped, as someone who was a fan of the first two in arcades, was the trailer for Marvel Vs Capcom 3. In addition to being hype as hell and insanely well-choreographed, it showed off some of the cast in really loving fun ways. This is the first of like 5 different trailers they put out.

edit: this is all of the cinematic trailers tied together, not just the first, they're all so good.

how about a fan-trailer for a fan-game that isn't out yet, and has been in development for like a decade now?

Megaman X: Corrupted is a throwback game in the style of the original SNES X games. But it's not like them in world design; it's a metroidvania and all the stages are connected in one massive world, with multi-phase Maverick fights. A fella by the name of JKB Games has been putting out little gameplay teasers for it for at least half a decade now and it's always looked fantastic. You can see more on his youtube page. I'd love to see this get picked up like Sonic Mania did and released as a full product, I'd pay for it in a heartbeat.

the music used in the trailer(intro stage theme)

and the S-Rank Boss Battle theme, which is insanely good and intense, it's the boss theme in this video I link to folks when I want to say "look how goddamn good this game is shaping up to be"

It’s more of an intro than a trailer, but Left 4 Dead.

Not only does it tie into one of the campaigns (you literally start on the same rooftop it ends at), it’s like a tutorial:
- move carefully when you hear a Witch
- don’t point flashlights at a Witch
- watch your teammates back
- use a pipebomb when a horde of zombies comes charging at you
- don’t wander from the group, or a Hunter will pounce you
- avoid triggering car alarms
- when you see a Tank run AND shoot
yep, the left 4 dead intro is a brilliant method of teaching game mechanics while also being a fantastic introduction to the setting.

Sweet, I'll definitely have to buy this
The story is also super nuts and the final boss is literally cyborg Dick Cheney with a nanomachine-powered pacemaker

It's the loving best

Also has one of the best doggos in videogames

Subnautica has an absolutely fantastic cinematic trailer. It's an unorthodox one that tells the story of the people aboard the Degassi, a ship that crashed on the planet years before you do, and people whose story you can follow as you explore the planet and is just a drat beautiful trailer, both visually and honestly story-wise. The game itself does look nice, for sure, and has some of the best water in games, but I do wish I could explore the Subnautica that looks like this trailer:

Man, subnautica is so good. The story is shockingly good, too, considering it's a survival game.

Holy poo poo how could I forget, MGR's soundtrack is also dynamic, so that during pivotal moments in a boss fight, the lyrics kick in. It's one of the best parts of an already great game

smash is a fun game and the ultimate character trailers have been top notch. definitely pay close attention to the k-rool and banjo ones in regards to, like, when donkey and diddy mush up against the window to look outside, stuff like that. they're really clearly made with as much love for the characters as possible, it's great. banjo also appears to have his japanese style, I remember seeing when "most requested" lists came up around ultimate's reveal, that banjo was weirdly popular in japan. I don't know if the game did really well over there but I have definitely seen a fair amount of anime-styled(in the cartoony anime animal sense, like doraemon) banjo merch like manga from back when B-K was still in stores.

it's also great looking at reaction videos from youtubers when the dragon quest dude got revealed and being like "OH NO IS THIS ANOTHER FIRE EMBLEM GUY" because dragon quest isn't a massive series in the west like it is in japan and lots of them are way too young to remember the original DQ, Dragon Warrior. his abilities look rad though, definitely more unique than "hits really hard with sword" like a lot of the FE sword users, he's more of a link-type.

Funny, I only saw the original Dial Tone trailer after seeing this tribute to it made in SFM with TF2 characters. It's a really, REALLY good fan-made trailer.
