things like fire panels, HVAC monitor units, stuff in cars, things that have under 16kb of memory to make it all work and we're still using them

there are many different computers that do that but even odds it's going to be intel 8051, TI msp430, or some chinese garbage micro that costs 3 cents

PIC and ATMega maybe show up in more expensive stuff but mostly hobby stuff

actually I think PIC32 is more successful than atmega, but mostly shows up in stuff just can't be done on a cheaper MSP430

i'm not in the industry, I just cosplay as one

I have an MSP430 launchpad and an STM-32F0 DISCOVERY board I haven't had much time to do with lately, but both are cool

although it has more than 16kb, i feel kind of bad for using an atmega 32u4 just to talk to a 4mhz z80, like i am taunting the poor computer with a cyberpunk futurechip infinitely faster than it that I’m only using as a keyboard controller. all that beef just to busy wait on my dumb human fingers.

love my MSP430s too. it’s crazy where they show up (inside power supplies, tv remote controls).

This. Cortex M0 is so cheap now, you can buy them for pennies, and they are incredibly power efficient and flexible.

You can always talk about stuff like the PocketCHIP too, but that is a fairly advanced computer.
