The show is also almost 20 years old now. It pioneered a lot of the comedy that we've seen in the last two decades. I personally think the show peaked with season 3, and has been hit and miss since then. I appreciate though that Larry will take a few years off and come back when he feels up to it.

BisterdDave posted:I've been making my way through Curb Your Enthusiasm for the first time, and I've got to say it's one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. I'm halfway through season 4 though, and something seems different about it, not in a good way either. I don't know how to say it, but it seems like the writing is trying too hard at this point to be funny. I googled a couple "seasons ranked" lists, only to find that season 4 is regarded as one of the best. Maybe it's just me Rewatching Curb now as my gf watches for first time. We’re on early season 4 right now and I’m feeling similar even though I have highly regarded memories of some of these eps so maybe it’s just part of the binging method as mentioned. Regardless - keep going because there’s still plenty of highs to come. Also until now never realized the the Funkman never joined the show til mid season 4

I used to love watching Curb, but after everything I've been through over the last two years--divorce, unemployment, a loving brain tumor--I have a hard time revisiting it. There's a deeply misanthropic bent to a lot of the humor that just rubs me the wrong way nowadays.

Been binge watching Gotham. Honestly really loved the first season where it was all about origins and had a good mob/corporate based intrigue thing going on. I'm up to mid season 3 and they did that True Blood thing where suddenly everyone has magical loving powers. It was going to happen at some point, but shitflooding the entire cast and stories with it all at once squeezed or made everything else seem too pointless to mention. They must have thought they were getting shitcanned to have crammed everything in like that after really great pacing. I'm going to watch it til the bitter end though, because of such a hard carry by penguin and non magical fish mooney.

I thought Scruggs was a good time at the movies, but it's not particularly remarkable or even cohesive. Though I was disappointed by the James Franco segment. From the trailer I assumed he was this guy who had been on the wrong end of a noose a dozen times and was totally nonchalant about it because he had become aware of his own plot armor, which I thought was an amazing character for Franco's poo poo-eating grin of a persona. The reality of it was quite a bit less interesting, so that one's on me.
