I don't think anyone was necessarily blame worthy. Hell....who's fault is it that a bunch of people were hospitalized because it was way too hot? Who's fault was the sexual abuse other than the poo poo head individuals engaging it? Certainly wasn't Fred Durst's fault. You could definitely say that the organizers were in over their heads and didn't plan great. But people die at music festivals sometimes. Bonnaroo averages close to one per year I believe. Coachella has seen several. It happens.

As for the poor conditions.....I guess I'd need to hear from someone who'd been there. The airfield that they held it was huge. I find it highly unlikely that the conditions portrayed were festival wide. Wasn't it a mile between main stages? I have little doubt that there were tons of campsites that were away from the poo poo shown in the doc. My guess is that the folks who had it the worst were nearer to the stages, and weren't well prepared to spend four days outside in that kind of heat.

Thats the thing though. None of the woodstocks were ever planned great at all. A good thing this doc does is address how bad things were in the original (while somewhat ignoring 94). Woodstock was a nightmare each time. Its a miracle they cancelled the latest one honestly.

Didn’t MTV have Green “retire” it because they had pre-taped a bunch of episodes and that song wasn’t a part of it? They wanted to pretend that Total Request Live was actually a live show

Never heard that theory! The whole history of TRL is fascinating. MTV's most popular VJ was Simon Rex who they were promoting big going into their MTV Summer House or whatever. Then suddenly despite all the promotion, he was suddenly gone. Turned out they fired him because when he was 18 he did some porn, which was just videos of him jacking off (and later spoofed by Broad City).

So, MTV needing a hot new young guy, they brought Carson Daly, a radio DJ, to do their summer stuff. He did well, so they hired him full time. He started hosting a show called Total Request which was a top 10 countdown show at like 9PM. He also started hosting MTV Live which was a standard talk show that aired at I think 5PM. Eventually they merged the two into Total Request Live.

And now Carson Daly is a cohost of The Today Show.

I specifically remember convincing my friends at a LAN party that we should watch Equilibrium, not The One, even though they hadn't heard of it. So we huddled around the biggest CRT and watched some lovely VCD rip of it and loved it. Yes it's dumb as hell but it takes itself seriously enough to suspend disbelief a bit.

Early into season 3 of Highlander, and while I just kind of accepted the video quality being complete poo poo as "well, it's an old show", I only just now realized that every episode has cropped. Didn't realize it until some text on screen was cut off halfway at the bottom. Did a bit of searching and the original aspect ratio of the show is 1.33:1 and they've blown it up and cut off the top and bottom to fit 16:9. Apparently every streaming service has this hot trash version of the show available, only way to watch it untouched is to buy the DVDs which are out of print, and a bluray version has been "coming soon" since 2009. :(

I decided to watch the 2005 Hitchhiker's Guide since it's on HBO, and I kind of like it more than when it was originally released. Maybe it's because it's been a while since I watched a movie that was willing to be silly for silliness sake. The John Malkovich role still feels a bit too menacing and nasty for the source material though.

It’s a bad adaptation of the book, but they were never going to be able to replicate that voice and tone perfectly and with that in mind it’s a pretty solid silly sci-fi comedy. The actual Guide segments are the highlight, the cast is good, and all the sets and aliens look great.

I’m a little surprised it hasn’t developed a cult following in the years since, but part of that is probably the lingering “it butchered the books!” sentiment from folks who’ve never rewatched it.

The HHGttG movie has its merits- I do like how Trillian gets fleshed out and there’s a lot of visual inventiveness even if the wit of Adams’ writing doesn’t always translate.

I would like to see some visualization of the shoe event horizon though.

It was alright once it finally got going. The plot does some neat things but I didn't think the action was anything special. I liked the ending and thought the kid actor was really good.

Overall neat concept but didn't live up to what I hoped it would it be.

- nu metal soundtrack

Finally got around to watching Giri/Haji on Netflix, and I really really liked it. I was pretty shocked at how tonally inconsistent it felt at times, but mulling it over that seems pretty obviously intentional. The whole thing is about clashes, between obligations (like in the title whoooa), cultures, siblings, gangs, etc., and I'm really pretty impressed at how hard they committed to the entire style of the show zig-zagging around wildly to match that. It can still be hard for me to accept melodramatic gunfight stuff when it starts to completely abandon any sense of realism, but it still somehow walked that fine line and worked for me.

i hate the HHGG movie because it's so close to being Actually Great. Arthur, Trillian, Ford and Zaphod were perfectly cast and had good chemistry. Especially Ford - he's the kind of character it's really hard to get right without just being LOLRANDOM, and both Mos Def and the guy who played him in the old BBC one did great jobs

but yeah it's a bit funny that the big hollywood one with all the money in the world couldn't even manage to be as good as the BBC one which literally spent its entire budget on Zaphod's second head, which promptly broke after like 2 scenes

Underworld movies, they took a topic that should be good fun and managed to make a 5 movie series that are joyless, confusing, and boring.

I was watching The Lawnmower Man (directors cut), it was a very poorly received movie but I enjoyed it. Long though, but I liked Brosnan playing against type.

Punkin Spunkin
Jan 1, 2010
Do not watch Jolt incidentally, cheap as gently caress looking, garbage everything, script, acting, sets, everything...but its greatest sin is that for a revenge action film it doesn't even have 10 seconds of compelling action.
No exaggeration. Not even a single scene or moment of fun or entertaining action. There are so many bad action movies and third tier John Wicks that at least have an entertaining sequence. Nope. Not even five seconds. All of the action looks stupid, fake, slow, cheap, badly shot, etc.
Its concept of "smart" is like, saying some trivia or a vocab word or whatever and then tediously defining it. Its concept of "witty" is even worse. I also don't think it knows what the word "masochist" means.
It seriously makes Ultraviolet look fantastic and intelligent by comparison. Ultraviolet has an aesthetic and choreography, and a less obnoxious script!

The only credit i give it is, I guess, that the ultimate big bad is the CIA
There's also inexplicably a very loud background extra talking about David Mamet for some reason lol

Watch anything else. I can say with certainty that any Resident Evil film chosen at random would be more entertaining.
