Finally got around to watching Abducted In Plain Sight last night after hearing how :stare: it was. Started off pretty standard amounts of interesting as true crime stuff goes, but I was hooked by the end. I'd say it adds layers of paranoia watching it as a relatively new parent. The moral of the story is pretty much don't trust any of your neighbors with your children as if we didn't already know that by now.

I didn't really walk away from it with that feeling at all. This was more like a perfect storm of incredibly naive parents, a community who were to shy to warn them about this particular guy, and the fear of the LDS church gay shaming the father.

You know what?

Okay, I will.

The main subject of the first episode is easily the worst of the bunch, but still really fascinating. It gets way better from there.

I was a bit disappointed in the Theranos documentary. Certainly didn't learn anything that wasn't already in the WSJ's coverage or the ABC News podcast.

Amazon owns them, so is everything on IMDB available on Prime?

Yes, you can stream them through the Prime Video app. They are labeled as IMDB Freedive.

Their deal with HBO ended so they lost the shows. The channel is equivalent to subscribing to HBO Now, so it has all the HBO content. It's not like Amazon randomly decided to charge extra for the HBO shows just for fun.

Prime is still showing all HBO seasons older than 5 years as included for me?

So is all of the Disney poo poo going to get ripped off of Netflix the second this thing launches or is their contract still good for a while?

It’s still good for awhile. Stuff will just slowly be removed as the rights expire and then either never come back or pop on D+.

Midsommar is an A24 flick right? So that should be on Prime, hopefully at some point in the near future.

Yea I mean it's only one episode so I would hesitate to make any judgments just yet, but so far The Mandalorian is excellent.

My only complaint is that I wanted him and his robot buddy to keep having adventures but instead he had to kill him. Oh well.

The silhouette of the robot buddy shows up on a bunch of the promo materials, wouldn't be surprised to see him again

I couldn't imagine dealing with the occasional hiccups with pirating now that I have two young kids. It just has to work on the first (or occasionally the second) try, don't care if it costs me a few dollars per month.

I want a good well constructed murder mystery show on Netflix to binge, any recs? I watched all of poirot when it was on the service and had just started on Columbo when that left. Corniness is fine if they still keep things reasonably interesting mystery-wise (I also wish Murder She Wrote was still up) but I don't especially want procedurals (Criminal Minds is so mediocre that I watched almost the entire run a few years ago and I couldn't tell you the names of any characters) and I really don't like gore (Hannibal and Bones are too much for me)

basically I saw Knives Out and am itching for something new

The Hateful Eight and Along Came a Spider are currently on Netflix and may scratch that itch, although I guess Hateful Eight has a bit of gore. Honorable mention for Wind River, which cycled off Netflix recently, but may be back at some point.

Documentaries should be as long as they want to be. Don't rush them because you're impatient.

I question most of HBO's output since the ATT / WarnerMedia merger. AT&T specifically told HBO that they were going to need to 10x their production a little more than a year ago in the run up to the HBO Max launch.

McMillions was well made and really fun but I don't think the subject matter warranted ~40% of a Ken Burns doc.

I watched The Vow on HBO and now Seduced on Starz and with both of these documentary series about NXIVM I feel like we are only getting half the story. Both of these series feel like they were made to exonerate the people involved from the crimes the cult committed.

I fell off hard after 5 episodes or so of The Vow, it just seemed so repetitive and I am shocked they are doing a second season.

I was already familiar with NXIVM from a podcast I heard a couple years ago, but the first episode of The Vow made NXIVM seem pretty awesome.

Similar to the Netflix documentary on Adderall, which just really made me want to try Adderall.
