The Lonely Island just put out a 30-minute "visual poem" on Netflix about Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco's rap career in the late 80's. There is no part of that sentence that doesn't interest me.

Today I learned that HBO Max will essentially be a dovetailing of HBO Go and HBO Now, so I'm OK with the name considering they'll probably just combine the apps.

Also, the version of ESPN+ in the Disney bundle doesn’t feature live sports, just on-demand stuff.

Quibi is the only one not owned by a billion (or trillion) dollar corporation, so I don't see how it lasts too long. Every other one can be either a) a loss leader for years or b) small enough to survive on niche programming.

nate fisher posted:HBO Max is a curious one. Given how much just HBO cost now, adding Warner (which includes DC stuff) and Cinemax for same price seems like a good deal. Also they have come out guns a blazing with getting Friends and BBT (which I think both are pure trash, but the public disagrees). So I will be switching my HBO Now sub to HBO Max once released for sure. I'm almost certain HBO Max will be a combined HBO Now and HBO Go, given reports. It's just that it will now have a zillion new shows.

HBO Max will cost the same as HBO Now does, which holds my theory that that there's going to be one big app for all things premium from WarnerMedia.

Should I just pay to add it to my Amazon account (we use amazon video a good bit) or what should I get instead? Sign up for HBO Now directly from HBO - that way, you'll get a free upgrade to HBO Max on launch day. There's no guarantee that Amazon will do the free upgrade, and if I was a betting man I'd say they're not going to.
