It is the worst phone i have ever used. Mightaswell posted:iphone xr is really bad even by apple standards i'll concede the oled point, but 3d touch was dumb from the beginning since you have to push way too hard to get it to activate and the only useful action it had was activating free cursor movement, which the new long touch handles better anyways. they're probably getting ready to drop it completely across the line in the next revision since it apparently increases manufacturing difficulty and cost by a non-trivial amount. the home button hasn't been an actual, physical button since the 6s and the soft button it was replaced with felt weird, so good riddance to wasted space

I actually find the 3D Touch useful for keyboard stuff, it’s v cool to hard press and make the cursor fly all over the place sporadically

3d touch is nice for stuff that's just a shortcut. like if you have an app in a folder has a notification, you can 3d touch the folder and go straight to the app. if you don't know the 3d touch shortcut, you can still get there the regular intuitive way. once you learn the shourtcut your phone becomes like a liquid metal extension of your hand it shouldn't be the default or only way to access any features though for discoverability and should be able to be completely turned off for accessibility.

I used to hate the idea of the 8, but it turns out not having a 3.5mm isn’t a huge deal as long as you have good Bluetooth headphones. that said I really prefer touchID to faceId

one of the great triumphs of the iphone design is that they came right out of the gate with precisely the right set of buttons. that was at a time when most phones had far too many, but apple also resisted the impulse to remove buttons willy-nilly, and in fact *added* (compared to most phones at the time, and now for that matter) a button in the excellent physical mute switch even with the larger screens resulting dropping touchid remains really dubious
