One of my clients was apparently known around town as "Mad Frankie" when he was younger and the town was small enough to have community. He is intellectually disabled and earned this nickname and celebrity status for two reasons: 1) his extreme willingness to fight and argue with people, and 2) his fanatical devotion to the local football team. Nowadays his severe epilepsy has caused such extensive mental decline that he is wheelchair bound and has almost no memory, but if I wheel him around town we still occasionally have some older locals come up to say hello (he responds super friendly but in keeping with his nickname is easily and accidentally provoked to argument and poorly coordinated attempts at violence).

Oh, we also have Famous Sharon , who is famous just for comedically claiming to be famous and for being very friendly and approachable. She has hustled that limited skillset into featuring in local business advertising and numerous guest roles and walk ons for local shows and charity/fundraising gigs.

The only people we should celebrate are our local eccentric but harmless and barely functional weirdos, rather than our talented and successful (most likely) rapists. Diogenes style celebrities. We would be a better society.
