I was reminded about all gas no brakes tonight. It's a "news" channel where the main reporter goes around to various events and lets people speak their piece. Essentially his prompts boil down to "what are you doing here?" and "expand on that". He's done videos about the riots where he goes to individuals and talks to them, talks to randos in florida, goes to the porn awards. It's a really interesting way to engaging with the people he interviews and even if it's a bit of a comedy youtube channel it's interesting to see someone engage with people on their own level. I'm watching Steve1989 open some K rations from 1945 and i'm disturbed that they basically look brand new and that he's just chowing down on it. You could paid me to eat food that was 75 years old, but it would be a lot.

It's crazy how some things seem to stay preserved even though they're just wrapped in wax paper. No way I'd eat it though. I like seeing how much the thinking behind the contents has changed over time. The modern ones are clearly designed to provide a decent amount of calories and a balanced diet so that you can actually live off them, but go back to say the Vietnam War era and they're more like an emergency meal for if you don't have anything else, and some of the WW2 ones are just "here's a handful of boiled sweets and a pack of amphetamine pills, hope you stay cranked long enough to go find some actual food!"

Back in the day a soldier fighting in France would be able to forage for the same plants and animals he had back home or, even more likely, find an abandoned bakery a few blocks away Now we're dropping kids from Pennsetucky in the middle of a desert and they'll be lucky to find a big enough rock to huddle under for shade if they get separated from their unit

I aways love the Canadian ones because they look the most appetizing (maybe they know exactly what we desire to eat?) and the fact that they always come with a chocolate bar you can get anywhere. He's mentioned that the CF is going to plastic bags last year so I'm curious to see what those look like. But yea I'm surprised at most if these WW2 ones are a bunch of crackers, smokes and sugar cubes. WW2 stuff always shows some kinda meat in a can. Those probably don't last. They also remind me how a friend was married to a marine and as their marriage was falling apart he would make mres because he didn't want to eat with her.

I've eaten Brit, German, US, Russian, French and Canadian. American rations are the most solid- all of them are edible, and most have inoffensive flavors. In more recent years, they've been using more commercial items. We also have better treats/snacks on average. The French were decent, but a lot of garbage. Canadian (that I've tried) rations were excellent. Russia hates their dudes, but had an excellent chocolate bar in the 24h mountain ration.

I remember a kid when Desert Storm happened brought in for show and tell a MRE his dad got from a French soldier that had a wine ration in it. The French one Steve had did not have that. It looked like it had just off the shelf canned meals in it. The Russian MRE I saw him try had brain pate in it, and i very much said nope to that. Sounds like a good way to get some kind of neurological condition. I love that crackers are a consistent item in all US from the earliest one. When you get down to it, hard tack is basically the same thing. This reminds me of a video I saw recently. The channel seems pretty new and the guy doing it clearly a retired guy doing this for fun, showing off his knowlage of being in the USN. His video about navy food was pretty interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usuoAsS-8zo I like that he says that poo poo on a shingle wasn't that bad. Also I've seen those no handle mugs before and had no idea they were from the navy.

I didn't see him listed here but recently I've been watching lots of DankPods. He's an energetic Australian guy who is really into modding iPods and collecting terrible budget MP3 players. A lot of his videos involve him doing inadvisable things like loading Doom Eternal off a flash-modded iPod or creating a frankenpod from parts to play Shrek off of. Recently, he got his hands on the Meganugget and it is truly something to behold.

I spend entirely too much time watching other people play video games I'm barely adequate at. Officially Devin: His narrative lps wraps unique storytelling around video game footage to make some of the most hilarious LPs I've ever seen. His extended LP of the Chaos Campaign in total warhammer is probably the only thing to come out from that faction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwW8OKakKlA&list=PLeunFtMS5KNKX7uvFS_waQ6r1rxXeVQzk Sigvald reluctantly burning down the old world so Slaanesh'll stop nagging him and he can go back to Netflix and Chill. Many a True Nerd: I love this guy, I honestly do. He's one of the most earnest professional LPers I've ever watched. Politics free, drama free, stress free ('cept when he's lovingly snarking on his gf) and just really enjoys playing himself some games. Real joy to listen to and his valentines day specials where he plays some cheesy romance light novel make that entire genre almost bearable. https://www.youtube.com/user/ManyATrueNerd Got his degree in the classics@Stuffy British College (oxford?) and not above squeeing over classic pottery.

Most of my Youtube mainstays have been covered, so I'll try not to overlap. No guarantees though. RegularCars - Car reviews. Sort of has a red letter media vibe, but cars, if you're into that idea. I know nothing about cars and still have learned nothing about cars, but I keep watching anyway. Pearbook - Colour footage of (mostly) Japanese things dated around the 1900's. Sometimes old documentaries, sometimes just soundless footage taken from the street. CurrieGOAT - Art youtube is endless, but this channel is one of my favorites. Just good vibes art and crafts with some nice as hell designs. Bearded Butchers - Some 'how to cook' videos, but I'm mainly here for the 'how to butcher' videos. If you don't want to see something dead get cut up, these are a no watch, obviously. But seeing the process from strung up carcass to cuts of meat that I recognise in a butcher's window is mesmerising to me as a city dweller. No animals are killed onscreen that I know of, it's all dressed carcasses, if you're still unsure. Crime Scene Cleaning - Mini documentaries of crime scene cleanup projects undertaken by the company that owns the channel. No corpses shown (these guys come in after it has been removed anyway), but a lot of... goop. And they'll straight up show it to you and tell you what it is. They'll also go into the details of death and circumstances of the deceased. Sounds really exploitative, but I found it educational and sobering. Still, edit: Gonna throw in Bonsaipop for anime stuff since I don't think it's been mentioned and is relatively new on the block. It's definitely convinced me to check out shows that I had already decided I wasn't really that interested in. If you like Supereyepatchwolf or Mother's Basement, I'd say check these guys out if you haven't already. Brick Shipment has a new favorite as of 10:55 on Jan 11, 2021 |

Oh I knew Bonsaipop looked familiar, I watched his video about Golgo13 after it was mentioned on another channel. The shithead channel i got conned into giving views before I realized he was just another white guy complaining about women having opinions and existing is Midnights Edge. Is there any rules of thumb you use to judge a channel if its chuds or not? Normally its easy if the videos are "X is runining Y!" or " Actor A FIRED from B!" Or even just rumors or news that isn't reported anywhere else and its come channel you've never heard of. Avatar is a good indicator. Any channel that has "thing in a suit" or an image of the creator who is trying to look cool is probably a bad sign.

Andrew Huang - Does tons of music composition stuff across just about every genre. Specializes in sampling weird stuff and turning it into music. I'm a big fan of his series where he gets 4 different producers to explain how they transform the same sample into completely unique songs, and then they all react to eachothers' creations. AvE - This is basically a handyman doing snarky, Letterkenny-eque rants while doing first person teardowns of various tools and pieces of tech. Voices of the Past - Pretty simple concept, this guy reads out transcripts of ancient texts, correspondances etc. along with accompanying images of the subject matter. Just a good window into the past in the words of those who lived through it. Atlas Pro - Everything you've ever wanted to know (and probably a lot you didn't) about geography. You'll either find this captivating or extremely boring. Chris and Jack - a consistently funny sketch comedy duo that I hope gets more recognition.

Has another channel where he reads bits of books. https://youtube.com/channel/UCfCKvREB11-fxyotS1ONgww And whomever recommended SandRhoman History, your the Illest. My wife got an Ambien recap on how to Siege a Star Fortress. "First, you dig all the dirt. Then you dig more. Do you have cannons? You'll need cannons. Can we get a cannon? I need a pike." What's the thought on Good Mythical Morning? I've been watching videos on and off and its just kinda two hipster doofuses doing stuff. They taste test those Jim Bakker doomsday food buckets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMbZp2P7wn4 Spoiler, they all taste super gross. They have a spin off cooking channel, Mythical Kitchen. Most of it is remaking fast food stuff but some of the stuff he does make has some really great tips. I used a lot of the stuff from the Burger episode and it really does make a difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIN2tA461Ig Talking about history youtube channels, what about Armchair Historian? His videos are pretty amusing with their animations and seem fairly well researched but with history youtubes it can surprise you with what their biases are.

I picked up on Simon via Megaprojects and then soon realized he's half the channels youtube recommends to me. I keep trying to watch Adam Savage's Tested, particularly his One Day Builds... except I think that motherfucker has hurt himself in some way on every single video of his that I've watched. He's got that manic energy that screams DO IT NOW instead of DO IT RIGHT and in every video he does something in the name of working fast that ends up loving him later on in the project. Even something as simple of pre-clearing a space on his bench to put a piece that's hot/just painted/needs to be put down. I swear to god my cat learns lessons faster than this man. Just utterly fails to ever think about what he's doing before he does it. It sucks because Mythbusters was a big influence on me for getting interested in engineering, design and fabrication. If Jamie had a channel where he methodically designed and built something while never hurting himself, I would watch that instead. Come to think of it, that's every single other Maker channel I watch. loving get it together Adam.
