Is there any real point to collecting a ton of cards in FF8? I saw a guide about playing a shitload of people in Balamb Garden to get rare cards but are they actually useful in the game or is it just an OCD collector thing?

The card game is better than the actual game. That's not a dig on FF8, triple triad is just real good. Otherwise yeah, rare cards can be used to optimally break the game if you're into that.

Should I even bother with mentioning the now dead or unplayable ones, like the various mobile ones that are now delisted and shutdown, or those two Crystal Chronicles games on the Wiiware that are unbuyable now after the Wii Shop was shut down. There's a fun Triple Triad sidequest in Balamb Garden where you have to beat all the members of the secret card club but I don't remember if there's a reward except more rare cards
