Oh sweet the music player is unlocked by default. I think in the GBA versions of I&II you needed to beat the games to unlock it.

Some boxes on the options screen still use the bad font after changing it. Hopefully that's the only place that does.

Quick decompile notes: - Levels go to 99, exp table at https://pastebin.com/XFBtPaYi - Like GBA, stat gain is random but there appears a table for forced gains, https://pastebin.com/Ta3uNmtm. My stat gains match through 5, but something is fucky in the magic growth, which appear to be growth from level 1 for mages, but growth/no growth for PLD/NIN with the cap stored elsewhere. Also note that PLD/NIN now grow on odd levels total rather than odd levels from class change. - Monster stats are at https://pastebin.com/1R1XhY59. Stats seem untouched except for 4x-10x HP ramping on bosses (and resist debuffs on the four fiends' present-time forms!), so while it should be a very simple mod to restore NESlike balance (simply chop them back down, fix exp requirements, and remove guaranteed stat gains), the game as shipped is extremely easy mode. E: Weapons and armor are stored nonlinear and out of order, so no easy scraping there. I have my guesses, but need to get to at least Pravoka to see where those items slot in in sort/ID order. Also, it appears to be a multipurpose engine for the entire set rather than specific for each game; all of 1's weapons, for example, have throwable, two-handable, magnetic, and back row OK flags included but zeroed out. Very interested in these, but not sure what the right move is. Get FF1 because that's the one I actually beat on NES and enjoy all the changes or get one of the other ones because I never actually beat them, so it's probably between 1 and 3. What's the avg play time for 3?

Now everybody is pestering me to upload more music. I was thinking of getting FF2, anyway. I never did finish it, just most of it. Also, looking it up, for some reason, it is $9.59 to FF3's 14.39. So these versions seem pretty definitive, despite a few hiccups which are mostly minor. I'm curious about a few things: - Would I be correct that the "post-game" stuff added for FF1 and FF2 are absent? I noticed the cave isn't there in FF1. - What does the end boss for FF2 look like? The graphics were wildly different between the PS1/GBA versions and the PSP version.

Sight unseen, I can tell you IV won't have augments or party swapping, V won't have the extra jobs, VI won't have the new espers or weapons. And of course no extra dungeons for any of them. Systems changes might make it, though; by this I'm mostly thinking that we could get Cyan's "pick a Bushido level and it charges on its own" mechanic. I dunno yet myself what the final boss will look like but if they've designed the sprites to get close to the Amano artwork then I assume it'll be based on this?

Significantly FASTER than Dawn of Souls, it's a flat 50% reduction from DoS 1-10, scaling to a bit over 25% reduction at level 99. To give rough ideas, you'll hit 10 in PR before 6 in NES, level 42 around the "par" from the old NES strategy guide of entering the ToF at level 27, and to take Sulla's ancient low-level challenge as a fight-only-unrunnable EXP par (though without RNG manipulation to avoid random unrunnables) you can't end the game lower than the low 20s, yet low 20s should be about even with GBA and hmm... maybe slightly lower than NES due to no guaranteed gains of primary stats? But with the fiends round 2 and Chaos as absolute chonky roadblocks. It's, in other words, not a very good balance at all, but I'm still happy it exists and I bought it because it's extremely easily moddable once the compression/encryption is dealt with (probably doable for free, $180 over Alipay for the janky tool) and it should give insight into how the Intelligence stat was supposed to work. univbee posted:So these versions seem pretty definitive, despite a few hiccups which are mostly minor. Gotten through Nepto's Shrine in FF3 so far. Thoughts: * Holy loving poo poo, the music's good. * Sprites are pretty solid too! * Seriously the music loving slaps. * Black Magic seems to be buffed a bit, I didn't use Black Mage until I hit Bahamut's Mountain, and a simple L1 spell can OHKO a random encounter monster, which is a lot better than it was. Mini dungeons are no longer a pain because of this. We'll see if this lasts! * You can't make Cid jump out of bounds like in the original but in exchange you can fire the cannon at the Vikings Hideout as much as you want. * Have I mentioned how good the music is yet? This is pretty much the remake I wanted FF3DS to be. Excited to play some more of it!

Also, someone in the Four Job Fiesta goon discord found out that Quicksave is actually a fully-fledged save slot, at least in FF3. So it's basically a "Make your own save point" option instead of the usual "this save is erased upon reloading" thing. That's pretty loving sweet.

Has anyone gotten one of the pixel remasters on iOS or Android? I'm curious how the touch controls are. I'm really torn between getting them on PC or mobile. I want to play them handheld pretty badly but the lack of controller support is a real letdown.
