I don't know, The World Ends With You let you restart any failed battles but hard fights never felt less difficult because of it. I think an option might be to let you restart a lost battle, but when you finish the game it counts how many times you bit it. Players who aren't bothered about that sort of thing will carry on while the competitive sort will reload to keep the perfect deathless run, thus punishing themselves

There's a really weird setup where you set monster traps across Spira, and then you can level monsters by fighting with them and increase their stats/teach them skills by feeding them accessories and items. There's like six tournaments and the prizes range from the new broken dresspheres to regular accessories, to comically strong accessories. You can pick up the Mascot dressphere long before its unlocked normally. Also you can juts put the fiend into your regular battle party. So like, if you're sick of fighting Leblanc go throw a loving dragon at her. See how smug she gets then.

The best way to play FFX2 is to ignore the main game at all costs and pour dozens of hours into the Fiend Arena, so that when you hit NG+, you can drop Omega Weapon on Leblanc.

Probably thirty percent of my problems with FF8 were that I was eleven and didn't know what the word 'junction' meant and the tutorials weren't great. Like once someone else explained it to me as 'you can equip spells' it made a lot more sense.

For some people, the monsters are the opponents and the challenge is fighting them on even ground. For others, the mechanics are the opponent, and the challenge is making each and every variable yours to manipulate. In the latter case, monsters are just for keeping score.

Theres a single conversation between Cid and Setzer in FFVI where Cid is suggesting the Blackjack could be faster if he ripped out the casino. After the Vector peace talks you have to backtrack to the crashed airship instead of beelining to Albrook. Nobody sees this scene.

At various times in my youth, I've been stonewalled by Atma Weapon, Demon Wall, and Yunalesca. I don't know if Angra Maniyu counts, being an optional superboss, but I remember fighting that fucker for ages. At one point I got bored, paused the boss fight, and played a few rounds of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

There weren't harder difficulties but there's superbosses, the monster arena, and a 100 floor dungeon and between the three of those you'll probably scratch the combat itch.

FFX was the game where if the English voice samples weren't the exact same length as the Japanese voice samples, the game would crash. I assume if you skip a cutscene in that game a tonberry eats your save file or something.

Pour everything into the Fiend Arena, this gives you access to Dress spheres and accessories you shouldn't have until the endgame.

Elephant Ambush posted:

So look up an arena guide? Okay cool.

To clarify a little, the Fiend Arena lets you capture and raise monsters, and has a bunch of tournaments. Winning the Standard Cup gets you the Psychic Dressphere, which was exclusive to the International Edition until now. This shouldn't be hard to do with a decent team, and the Psychic DS has powers like 'absorb all elements' and 'stop time' and 'actually I'm going to stop taking damage altogether'. It probably takes a while to unlock those skills but if you grab it you're good to go.

A much more difficult tournament has the Mascot Dressphere, which is something you normally only in the final chapter if you've done a bunch of bullshit. The Mascot Dressphere is about as broken as something you can only obtain for doing all the sidequests can be. You can get it in Chapter 1 but, like, you probably shouldn't. I mean I'm not going to stop you but only crazy people do this.

Anyway what you should probably do for the Fiend Arena is capture a Chocobo, a Tonberry, and a Red Elemental. You can get them from the very beginning of the game and they make a worryingly efficient killing team.

It's Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Price of Eternity~, which was released in Japan on the same day as the FFX/X2 remaster. And that is followed by the Audio drama Final Fantasy X -Will- and all of it is why I don't trust Square to make a sequel to anything I like ever again.

Yeah like FFX Spira is trapped in this eternal cycle of martyrdom and death worship to the point where your government approved ritualistic suicide has a roadmap. Somewhere along the line it's decided that Sin is a punishment, that its something Spirans earned. And as long as nobody is told the truth of the situation, in the name of 'false hope', it can't be resolved. So when Yuna finally gives the smackdown, and the basic pillar of society explodes, nobody has any idea what to do with themselves. It's like if everyone in Spira was a teen raised in a weird religious cult and one morning you throw a credit card and some car keys at them. What are they going to do? I don't know, and they certainly don't. They're speeding. They're about to buy the ugliest hat, because whose going to loving stop them? Sin? Sin exploded.

So this is the state we're in by FFX2. Turns out machines are cool. God's a cricket and we killed him. Temples are for losers now, find a new job. There's infinite potential we were all too terrified to explore and now if you die it's because something bad happened to you, not because it's your job.

So the very first time something starts going south in FFX2 Nooj falls into the old patterns of 'okay we can solve this with a murder-suicide' and Yuna tells him to go gently caress himself. And that's why I like Final Fantasy X-2.

(okay her line is actually something like 'I don't like your plan, it sucks' but it definetly has the spirit of 'go gently caress yourself')

I think the popstar thing is that Leblanc basically stole Yuna's identity, found the Dressphere equivalent of a theater membership card, and went 'I'm gonna sell so many tickets'
