the best part about Aeris' death is that 9 year old me didn't know about elements but put the water ring on before the fight with jenova anyway and thought that Cloud was invincible for plot reasons because he was SUPER UPSET about aeris' death in that battle

I always die to that fight at least once and have to sit through the cutscene a couple of times because I never use any accessories that don't give a straight attack/defence bonus and never even bothered looking at that ring.

Because FF9 is the one that stuck closest to Amano's original designs and that's just what his stuff looks like.

FF15 is deliberately going for an Americana vibe which why all the guys have normal looking clothes and Cindy looks like she's from a softcore porn channel

The combat has quite a high technical ceiling to it you just don't need to use any of it.

no one remembers anything about FF7, its power is fearsome that way

cloud is a well-meaning but severely mentally ill young man who spends the first leg of his adventure vacillating between obnoxious swagger and barely-controlled migraine-accompanying freakouts because there are two different personalities and like five different voices jostling for control inside of his chemical-soaked brain. the only person who knows how broken he really is at the start is his aforementioned co-dependent childhood friend who enables his illness due to her own guilt and attachment issues, and then he meets another girl who decides to start shamelessly flirting with him because he has a passing resemblance to her old boyfriend, very quickly realizes how bad a decision that was, and spends the rest of their adventure trying to find a way to apologize for it only to get killed before she can spit it out

he has his memetic lines but people tend not to remember stuff like his patient efforts to talk yuffie through her motion sickness or how he just rolls his eyes and goes along with all the insanity at the junon parade. in other circumstances he'd be the generically nice small-town everykid from less memorable JRPG's, but shinra pumping him full of mako and jenova cells derailed that

The thing with Yuffie is great touch because you find out that Cloud suffered from motion sickness in the flashback and Zack did the same to him.

Yeah you fell prey to thinking the racial alignment of weapons was as important as the game made it out to be, like everyone else. The most important thing about a weapon is the innate damage type it is (blunt/edged/piercing) everything else it just a bonus.

It had issues at launch but they're pretty much all fixed so it mainly depends on how you feel about the graphics and whether you can put up the frankly not much fun gameplay in 2019.

FF12 was intentionally designed to be vague to encourage people to experiment and try things and share what they learned online. They succeeded in this whether anyone thinks it's ~*good game design*~ or not.

I personally hate being spoonfed everything like a call of duty tutorial and I laugh at people who hate not being told exactly where to go and what to do next.

I didn't look at a single wiki entry and beat the game incredibly easily using the same three characters all game because FF12 is one of the easiest games ever made.

Maybe it's because I don't really like the characters or something.

Probably, if the characters were fun in any way it might be tolerable but they just suck

I'm enjoying the remaster, because I love FF8 and the new characters are well done, but can't help but feel it is one of the less....complete....remasters. Not even talking about the source code issue, more things like Cid being a remastered character model when giving you orders before Dollet, then suddenly becoming super pixellated/almost blending in to the background after he finishes his speech. The game feels incomplete in some areas.

In exchange for not being able to do anything about 4:3 aspect ratio, low res FMVs etc, would also have liked them to have improved more of the things they could control, such as offering a remastered soundtrack (like X, X-2, XII remasters).

Still gonna play and enjoy it, though.

The Cid thing is because sometimes the 'polygon models' were actually part of the background because who's gonna notice on a CRT at 240p

Yeah it's a lot different to other FF games since it's actually good
