Even then, attack on titan had to wait like 4 years for a s2 Also I thought re:zero was a smash success like those too. It was certainly everywhere when it was airing, and for a good while after too.

imo the weakest part of s1 was the second "arc" in the mansion. i liked arc 1 a lot for introducing the concepts and being relatively short and snappy, and arc 3 was generally strong concepts with strong execution, but arc 2 just didn't really have much to sell me on it.

I don't know if he regretted never having them, but there was one episode in arc 3 that had both the op and ed in it, and he said in an interview or something "I'm so glad we could finally have them both in one episode, they're both very good"

I think this conversation would feel a lot less gross if you leaned more into the "emilia's actions are a reflection of her personality and personal traumas, and a much more significant character moment than just a generic rejection of subaru being crazy" part and dropped the "emilia could've done better and should've been more mature in handling that situation" part

She gives him the name satella as a test of how he would react, since she's used to being shunned for looking like the jealous witch and this guy is behaving as if he has no idea she bears that resemblance. I always read it as her going "maybe he just hasn't noticed, and as soon as he does he's going to get mad at me, better just spell it out for him and rip that bandaid while I'm still prepared for it" and Subaru's response to emilia saying "my name is adolf hitler" was a straight faced "nice to meet you Adolf! I hope we can become good friends"

yeah ram states earlier in the show that she thinks she can take betty 1v1 when they're a little ways away from the manor, and ram is Extremely Dead from the cult invasion. even assuming betty is probably substantially stronger at the actual mansion grounds, the drop off in power is steep enough that her effective defense radius is actually probably pretty small vs that level of threat. also puck would've been there during the attack and he's some kind of freaky elemental god. while they obviously didn't kill puck, they killed everyone else. the cult's attack was no joke

i was really hyped to love this episode and i kinda didn't care for it tbh. garfield's backstory is compelling but i don't really understand how it connects to his current actions nor do i understand his reasoning. also they really could've had an episode or two before the second story of garfield's mom, some distance between those beats would've really made it hit harder.

I think the pacing of it in the anime wasn't great. Every episode having an inspiring speech was fine, but they also tended to have the lengthy character backstory explaining why the character was making the speech happen immediately before the speech itself, which feels like a cheap slog once you get to the third or 4th time they've done it and gets confusing quickly. Switching around the timing of some of these events/when the backstories are explained would've helped a lot

well that does not bode well. re:zero was already pretty awkward in its action sequences (my rule of thumb is the shorter a re:zero action sequence is the better it is, which is why the white whale fight kinda blows), hopefully it isn't too much of an issue
