I think .torrent is the longest extension I use on a regular basis. I use .SLDPRT every day, but that's one less character. What is the longest file extension you ever saw?

It turns out the muppets are one to one equivalents to file extensions. Mr. Johnson is a .conf file:

That meant 8.3 characters. 8 for the filename and 3 for the extension. Modern OS don't have that limitation and thus we got .torrent and .docx and poo poo. Basically because FAT YOSPOS

.ps1 for powershell scripts is pretty good obviously .ps was already taken so gently caress it just tack the version number on the end; powershell v2 would use .ps2, etc. microsoft eventually realized that versioning with file extensions is dumb and just added a #requires statement to the language itself, and now we are up to powershell v6 and still writing .ps1 files

when the first ipad came out a guy i knew bought two of them on day one bc he was a flash developer and he was like "mailing companies an ipad with my portfolio on it will be an incredible way to show off my interactive work!!" i asked him -- didn't steve jobs say that he doesn't like flash? and there is no flash on ios? and he said "well yeah right now, sure, but adobe's working on it, it's way too popular for apple to just ignore it forever" i wonder how he's doing
