:pwn: :pwn: :pwn: :pwn: :pwn:

(Sorry, Sara, there's only so much room in the thread title, someone had to get cut.)

Basically April. Mostly April. 2/3rds April

Yes, the schedule is a bit wonky, at least in the sense that we're used to blocks of shows being held within a given month. But I have faith that we will get through this trying time, and understand that tonight's show is at the end of March, and that Sandra Oh will make the jump to comedy with grace and aplomb. Oh yes, and we get music from Tame Impala, as well.

Sandra Oh loves 'mallows, and has nerves of steel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2wPNM05hu8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeBXl0x3fNM

She also dishes on her favourite moments from the show...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PJ-6FET1oo

...and spoiler alert: She has questionable taste in sketch comedy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbTrAEesNiA

Tame Impala are the psychedelic rock band from Australia that isn't King Gizzard, which, I would like to say right now, ought to get their shot on SNL sooner than later. Here's their latest single, "Patience."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUmV-MorIKc

Next week, in Actual April, Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington and Sara Bareilles both make their SNL debuts. And we round out the month (not the season!) with Emma Stone returning to 8H for her fourth time hosting, with Korean boy band BTS making their first (and, honestly, probably only) appearance on the show. They may even appear in some sketches, maybe...

NowonSA posted:

Gonna be fun to see what a mega-popular k-pop boyband looks like performing on SNL. I feel like there has to be an easy sketch to write giving them cameos being swarmed by fans or something more interesting. Lots of Korean celebs do variety shows which are pretty close to sketch comedy (kind of a sketch/improv hybrid if I had to describe it briefly), there's a lot of crossover with popular singers landing acting jobs, and SNL Korea is a proper thing they've probably been exposed to, so even with a language barrier I think they have a surprising potential to be good in a sketch, particularly if you have the members of the band with really good English take point. I don't know how much BTS has dabbled into those types of non-singing performance, but there's definitely a precedent in the Korean culture and entertainment industry for these kinds of crossover moves.

For extra safety you could make it a pre-taped short and there you go.

Tonight's Vintage comes to us from season 25: The Rock with AC/DC, March 18 2000. This was Johnson's first appearance on SNL.

Enjoy!

I'm genuinely curious about Kit Harrington. His acting chops don't seem terribly strong, but then again Game of Thrones suffers from some godawful direction. It seems obvious that he's hosting SNL to promote the show's final season, I'm just not sure he'll be any good.

What's the over/under on how many times he manages to close his mouth?

he did absurdist deadpan comedy really well in that HBO parody sports doc he did with Andy samberg. seems like a funny guy given good material

7 Days in Hell was hilarious and it's not Harrington's fault he was cast as a humorless paladin.

That said, he probably is a terrible actor...

guaranteed there’s going to be at least one god awful Game of Thrones sketch though with Kit just playing Jon and everybody just doing jokes that amount to HAVE YOU SEEN GAME OF THRONES

Reign on me.
The sketch about bringing Jon Snow back from the dead a few seasons ago was really bad but I thought it was because I hadn’t seen the show yet.

Then I got caught up and it still wasn’t funny.

I remember watching it live as a snotty wresting teen who hated the Rock wondering what made him so special. Shows what I know.

Hey, at least I get to see and hear "WWF" uncensored in 2019 as God intended.

Seriously weird to see the WWF bug unobscured (but for the NBC bug but still.)

It's good to see we've gone from wrestlers as SNL hosts to SNL cast members as wrestlers.

Oh thank god I was worried they would have a cast member dress up like Kim.

Edit: There's a commercial for a local car lot that is offering a single box of girl scout cookies free if you buy a new car.

That's what I mean, SNL always puts Asian guest hosts into lovely racist stereotypes (and an obligatory North Korea skit).

I doubt it. Those “we wrote these jokes for each other and they’ve never seen them before” jokes were done at dress.

They’re actors on TV

Edit: Mostly at dress, a few things were changed up for the air show, but the majority was not “unheard” before. 25:51 into this podcast
