"Not Will" and mermaid lady were terrible straight men to Depp's Sparrow and just made it more obvious that less Sparrow goes a long way. The color palette change was a real knock, I have no idea why they made everything so grey and flat. I would guess because that's how most of 3 was and so they doubled down on it. I liked Priest Not Will in and of himself, he had some good moments, but he wasn't given the opportunity to really assert himself in the script and the actor couldn't compete with the stronger characters in terms of screen presence the way Orlando could. The Mermaid dragged him down for being such a non-character and being so strongly tied to him though. They pair of them got smothered. But I put that down to the editing to a point. In a tighter movie that had less meandering and pointless asides (like the Russian Roulette bullshit) they would have had less to get lost in. Sparrow got a bit overexposed as well, but again that's something editing could have helped. I just don't agree on Blackbeard, I loved him start to finish (again, other than the useless russian roulette gag).

It really hasn't stopped being frustrating that they put almost half a year of build into this Shane McMahon Wrestlemania match and 80% of the roster gets thrown randomly into battle royals or booked into title matches five days before the show
