I don't know anything about guns but I've had gun guys defend civilian ownership of AR type weapons by saying that the rounds are just about the same as a .22 rifle. Is that even true? I feel like it's bullshit.

22 and 223 will leave similar size holes in paper. That's where the similarities stop. The 223 round (most common AR chamber) is twice as heavy, about twice as long, and has 2700fps vs 1100fps of a .22. I absolutely believe that 10x number above.

I had to teach myself how to cook after I destroyed my microwave by being a massive idiot. At that point I was in an unfamiliar city half way across the country and working 3rd shift. I would just pop a TV dinner in the microwave, eat it and then want more because it only takes 2 minutes.

Once the microwave was destroyed, I couldn't afford a new one, so I was forced to consider if I wanted to wait another 30 minutes for more food. From there I realized that I could use that time to make something for cheaper. I feel like the first thing I started making was egg drop soup, which is hella easy, and it just spread from there.

Good on you for learning to cook, but how could you not afford another microwave? They're like $4 from a thrift store :psyduck:

This is talking to Boomers in a nutshell.

I tried having the same conversation with my elder-Millennial coworker, and it was going smoothly until the conclusion where he just went "I know all taxation is theft" and then I short circuited.

This will be the first Thanksgiving in a decade I've not shared with my boomer parents. It is entirely due to their support of Trump 2020. I was willing to drop by with a KN95, elbow-bump people, exchange (sanitized) food, and leave -- but the Trump support is too much. My dad fell headfirst into the conspiracies too, doing string.jpg about how it's SO STRANGE that a bunch of mail-in votes counted after the election changed the election results in states where they couldn't begin counting mail-in votes until after the election.

My dad told me a story yesterday about how he was running some sort of scam in the 1970s to avoid being charged fees on the very early “credit cards” (not sure it means what he thinks it means), he would get his wages paid into one bank account and kill any interest charges, withdraw the money at the counter and then walk with several thousand pounds in his pocket to the other end of London to pay it into a different bank and kill those interest charges, week later when it was cleared he would take the money back out and put it in the first bank to pay his mortgage.

At no point did he think of getting a taxi or a bus.

They can't find them.
