This is probably an old person thing and less specific to boomers, but saying some variation of "people are nuts these days, back then you could do XYZ without worrying about being shot/murdered/etc" when in fact things are generally safer and all around better from a public safety standpoint.

I sympathize though because perception of danger vs the reality of is hard for humans to understand and is why I get nervous on airplanes despite the fact I'm objectively much more likely to die on the drive to/from the airport. Probably has something to do with Boomers still watching local news so religiously and seeing all the reported murders to fill airtime.


Unrelatedly, my dad did a very unboomer thing and went from Bush apologist to center-left dem over the past decade. Didn't really happen because of some singular event, mostly just a variety of things he's dealt with personally and from the community involvement he participates in. He used to be very black and white when I was a kid (though maybe that was just him being a parent), but now he sees things in shades of grey and morally complex without falling into the "both sides in Charleston were flawed" argument.
