lol'd Don't mean to sound cranky but it's a little frustrating, everyone is an armchair expert when it comes to sleep cause they read a thing once. That said was more trying to sound jovial about it... I probably just suck at posting mostly

Noice and unironically hope the sleep gets better, for everyone suffering from insomnia here - any level of sleep deprivation sucks. I would say to everyone though be real careful with prescription sleeping pills - most of the sleep specialists whether doctors, pyschiatrists or psychologists - reckon prolonged usage makes your sleep problems worse as well as potential for addiction, building up tolerance and/or withdrawal effects. Make sure that there isn't something that can be used to treat you in addition to the sleeping pills and be careful with the usage. I was lucky that they don't work well on me (just make me feel horrible and zombified without KOing me at healthy doses) cause it meant I didn't inevitably screw myself up further with them as I'm sure a young idiot me would probably have done. Oddly Modafinil has been much more helpful - can use that to treat fatigue and tiredness and doesn't seem to keep me awake any more than I would be anyways... but since it's an off label medicine for my condition it's way more bloody expensive than I'd like so have to use it sparingly.

To add to this, if you're taking other prescriptions and a doctor or psych prescribes you sleeping pills make loving sure they tell you if there's any chance of a negative interaction. I ended up hospitalized twice because doctors rxed me sleeping pills and went 'you'll be a-okay with your other meds lol'.

Excellent point. Had that happen with some sleeping pills and a randomly prescribed anti-anxiety med from a doctor who didn't really know what he was doing and decided that anxiety must be the cause of my inability to sleep. Didn't end up in hospital but blacked out for half a minute while I standing up and was lucky not to crack my skull open - sleep specialist who I'd just started to see wrote the guy a letter tearing shreds off him.

I’m not going to take pills to solve this. I know the root cause. So says my doc too. I’m too wrapped up in work.

Just for others reading this, thin people can have "central" sleep apnea where your brain just doesn't send the right signals while you're sleeping. They can also still have obstructive too if your throat is just shaped weird or whatever.

Have a friend who is tall and skinny but had it cause of messed up sinus and throat, had corrective surgery and is much better these days - now the only thing loving up his sleep is a new born daughter.

Sleep IS the best thing next to death, so I don't think that was a rude thing for that guy to say. I think also he meant the good kind of sleep, like REM restful kind. It's not an escape, though. Oftentimes whatever you're dreaming about is more frightening that what is going on when you're awake! I love sleeping, but I think when you die the whole thing is over, so...rest is best!

Both death and sleep are as much part of life as sex and eating and aging from a metaphysical point of view but while I like to think one day I will welcome the big sleep these days I try to avoid it despite engaging in somewhat riskerier than normal behavior, part of the fun I guess. Sleeping on the other hand. Some days you just gotta sleep and sleep some more. I only know what works for me but if you have a consistent workout routine, ie 8 hours a week, you won't have to ask your body to sleep your body will ask you to sleep. Stress is a bad one and I've been kept awak by stress for sure. Clear your mind and tell yourself you are on the right track and doing things to fix what is stressing you out, and worrying about it now isn't helpful. Failing that smoke a huge joint and smash some beers. numberoneposter fucked around with this message at 12:32 on Apr 9, 2019 |

Yeah this was without stimulant drugs - was drinking and smoking weed I suppose but that tends to make me more likely rather than less likely to sleep. But yeah, as I pointed out earlier that world record thing is kinda bogus - Guiness no longer update it due to legal concerns of encouraging people to go without sleep for extended periods and even just in Australia alone there is a documented case of 18 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes from the Australian National Sleep Project.
