That's really good (and builds on a very memorable NPC intro). If I'm understanding how Values work in STA, it might be a little too specific; it's more like character background/relationships than a Value that can affect gameplay.
In keeping with the connection between Ferengi and the Sigma Iotian cultures, I might suggest a similar value: Everybody Wants a Piece of the Action. I can see Leyanni and Malone bonding over their shared cultural greed, and building that lifelong friendship over all the angles they work to make their Academy tour as profitable as possible.

(I'm loving this so far :D )

Oh I like that, and I'll defer to your knowledge of the system as I have none. :D

I propose Rule 7: Keep your ears open. Leyanni's been in this strange new place that's been built up all her life as The Bad Guys for like, what, a week? She's not buying this whole hippy dippy Federation thing, there's a dark side to it SOMEWHERE and if she can't see it yet that's only because they're better at hiding it than the Ferengi were. Keep your ears open, keep picking at the edges, keep talking to people and reading things you aren't supposed to. Find out what's REALLY going on.

I don't care how it comes about but we absolutely need to have one of those hard-won best friendships with Vito, I consider this non-negotiable.

Agreed. Hell, I think we need both Vito and T'Pann. Having friends that basically embody the angel-and-devil on Leyanni's shoulders makes for some natural CYOA options, plus there 's so much potential for a Kirk/Spock/McCoy-like dynamic viewed through a Ferengi lens. (also comedy)

Ugh befriending Vito is so cliche though, at least right away. Let him mature some and befriend him Senior year or something, I don't want to deal with this teenager bullshit.

This came up in the CYOA discord earlier too, and the consensus (at least there) was that we should hang out at the Academy for a good while. I was originally going to make "the Academy" just the character generation period, but it turns out this is also probably one of the most interesting and chaotic parts of Leyanni's life, so we can chill out here for a bit and take our time making friends/enemies/frienemies.

Outrail posted:

It's a callback to one of the original character pitches for this CYOA that I thought sounded fun to incorporate as an NPC (which is itself a callback to an iconic TOS episode):

Any suggestions to start with? I feel I'll understand this game better with some context. Otherwise it's just going to be votes to airlock every problem until wive taken control of the ship.

I am flattered at Vito and agree with some nuance of Everybody wants a Piece of the Action. This would probably help with orienting Leyanni's political and economic activities and provides hooks into actions that don't involve killing the bosses.

I do think if he ends up a core supporting cast member he ought to be the science or engineering guy despite talking like a dime store novel hoodlum.

This, if we're going to spend some time at the academy, then I think it'd be appropriate to start out suspicious. Leyanni is familiar with Ferengi cons and who knows if this Federation business isn't just a really good one.

That's a good one, voting for this. It applies to every Star Trek plot in the world, but we're not going to shortcut them as "just" the engineer the way we might in security or command. We're just going to be the quirky, slightly paranoid but frequently right about it, Ferengi engineer.

Revolutionary socialists have a tendency to hang factory owners from lampposts. Since this is the idealistic post scarcity socialist future, there isn't much need to do that. However people still want status items and collectables, and are willing to work for them. Hence, trading favors and other collectables becomes a new psudeo-currency in Starfleet. And our new Ferengineer is likely to dive into that with gusto.

Also, Everyone wants a piece of the action.
