There's The Seven Years War (1756-1763) which looks like an old school total war type game with more complexity. I had my eye on it in the past but never got around to trying it out. https://store.steampowered.com/app/400470/The_Seven_Years_War_17561763/

Steel Beasts Pro also has some weird time limited version that doesn't require a dongle. 10bux for a month, 25 for 4 months and 40 for a year. So it's either a dongle or a subscription. Grogs eh?

I've been playing Armoured Command II which was recently released as a paid product on Steam, old beta version still free but no more updates. It's a WW2 tank commander roguelike not really a grog wargame but it's ugly as gently caress with a mostly keyboard only UI, it has hexes and I've learnt about weird Polish tankettes, anti-tank guns and artillery so it's kinda grog, groglike? Anyway it's pretty fun.

The best tank sim is M1 Tank Platoon II TANK... RIGHT FLANK LOAD SABOT SABOT... UP ON THE WAY! I tried getting it to run in Windows 10 a couple years back but even with some fan patches and glide wrappers it wouldn't work properly

pointsofdata posted:I looked it up afterwards and not much is known of the actual battle There's also this volume of the official British history of WW2 that someone made available online which covers Rommel's early advances in North Africa https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/UN/UK/UK-Med-II/index.html There's a few other of the official histories online but not all which is a shame. https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/UN/UK/index.html Basically it's a pretty minor battle that doesn't really get much coverage in the regular online places but if you dig around you can find out a lot more. cool new Metroid game fucked around with this message at 11:43 on May 31, 2020 |

This reminded me of the John Tiller Panzer Battles game Battles of North Africa 1941. I don't own it but I remember looking through the designer notes PDF they put up on their website a while back and being impressed by the number of battles. Had another look and they got a scenario covering Mersa el Brega as well, and as with every scenario there's a load of different variants, vs AI, vs real player, variable victory points, hypothetical poo poo etc. Page 86 in this PDF http://johntillersoftware.com/PanzerBattles/BattlesOfNorthAfrica/Notes.pdf

Mokotow posted:Are there any interesting Grog games focusing on the 1870-71 Franco-Prussian bruhaha? It doesn't focus on the Franco-Prussian War but Wargame Construction Set 3 Age of Rifles has a few scenarios from the war and also other scenarios covering all sorts of things from the mid 19th century to pre WW1. Plus there's a big pack of fan made scenarios that add a ton more. Really wish there was a modern version of that game.

JTS stuff just runs inside a non fullscreen window so would work at any resolution but yeah absolutely zero scaling and the zoom options are usually pretty bad.
