That list in the OP actually makes me wonder: Is there much of a market for non-historical grognard games? Sure, one of the draws is going all-in on the history and trying various alt-history scenarios. But at the same time, something like e.g. Combat Mission with (meticulously simulated) laser cannons sounds like it cold be pretty rad.

It's really boggling the mind that they're not at least automating that process. It's really not a complicated thing. Setting up a simple API that receives the buyer's data, applies whatever algorithm they have to it, and spits out the final code, could be done in a single day. Hell, if you were willing to put another day or two into it you could even have the installed game call that API automatically, so the user doesn't have to do anything but confirm it once. It's just so needlessly dumb.
