You should try one of the smaller scenarios - I have a pretty fun Guadalcanal run going right now with some Russian guy. I sunk Zuikaku and Shokaku but lost all my CVs but a badly-damaged Wasp in the process, so freaking CVL Ryujo is queen of the south seas now

I don't mind the air production model so much right now, since it's fiddly hard work and the Japanese need all the help they can get against a human Allied player anyways, but I agree that any WITP2 has to have a fleshed out Allied production system. And the Japanese system is weird, don't duplicate it. Maybe both sides could allocate research points or design teams in a Hearts of Iron style.

Example: Jiro Hirokoshi and his Mitsubishi team don't waste time on the Jack and later Zero variants, maybe you get the A7M Sam sooner. More interesting and plausible than just skipping generations of aircraft through arbitrary "factory" points, but you'd suffer from lack of better Zeroes and Jacks. There need to be tradeoffs, basically and the whole production/research system would probably be better redesigned from the ground up with an interface that doesn't require external programs to understand what the hell you're doing.

You guys play those terrible AGEoD games at all? I've got RoP, RUS, and TYW. I've only played RUS to completion, once with an actual person. I despise the interface, but really enjoy the game play. I'd be up for a PBEM game with someone who isn't insanely good. Or i'd be up for playing a veteran if they were a good sport about obliterating me. I'm sure I could use some pointers.

Always down for a RUS PBEM, hit me up. There is a lot of good game there buried under bad interface and mangled English.

So I was merrily preparing for war with Italy as the Central Powers in SC: WW1. Kept my western front short by not invading Belgium and sending von Kluck east. Annoyed that the British join the war anyways in September even if you do absolutely nothing to provoke them (this seems ahistorical to me, but whatever).

April 1915, this happens:

(lol at France and Britain being aghast at their own DOW of Britain, this game definitely got QA)

They blitz through Belgium in a single turn. French cavalry is outside Coblenz. I'd wondered where the BEF was... the AI must have just stacked it up against the Belgian border this entire time. Smart!

Can't believe I paid $40 for this and all the events and systems are just the same as the 2011 version. Can't believe I must grudgingly admit I still enjoy it :smith:

Sorry if this is super obvious or has already been explained, but what exactly is WitE2 bringing to the table that makes it worth buying if you already have #1? It's really hard to see any changes or improvements.

There's stuff on the Matrix forums (including some beta AARs) but the gist is they're bringing in a version of the War in the West air system and the scoring is going to be more dynamic in a way that forces German players to stay aggressive. Logistics models individual tons of freight moving on single or dual-track railways. Some other people are digging into it.

I'm also very vOv about it and more excited about Ardennes Offensive.

I think it’s marginally better than Commander : The Great War, and has a little bit more depth to it; however, both games are in the same vein.

This is right. I think Strategic Command WWI is slightly better, but it's also significantly clunkier than C:TGW. I've played a lot of both of these. You can do slightly more weird stuff with the SC games, research and diplomacy in particular are more open-ended and complicated but not necessarily superior to the CTGW mechanics. PBEM and turn playback are better with Commander. It's just crisper. Both games have minor mod scenes.

There's a big opening for a good Great War strategic/operational wargame imo. I want a Decisive Campaigns game where I can fire von Hotzendorf. The only place I can get that fix is in the various Paradox game WWI mods

Good game! Congrats to Yooper for a well earned victory. If the game had gone on past turn 11 I would have had to evacuate all the salients just to retain Smolensk. Once I lost those level four forts at the northern tip of the Moscow-facing bulge (and my line facing the Soviet advance from the southeast) things fell apart. Also my center was almost entirely held by Luftwaffe field divisions. :v:
