Eh, Netflix can and often does put shows on weekly schedules. That they continue to buck that trend outside of Japan and... I think Canada? for anime they've licensed or even bank-rolled seems like they ain't learning much.

Hell, when Kakegurui's 1st Season came out, it was kinda similar and a buncha goons (yours truly included) still watched the show through whatever means they could.

e: That said, when the show becomes fully available on Netflix, please avoid :filez: references.

Man after I finally have enough money to not care about subbing to all the anime streaming services so I don't have to :filez: anymore, Netflix manages to gently caress that up for me, and one of my most anticipated shows of the year. I'll check back in if I bite the bullet and get my torrent clients setup again but I really don't want to start :filez:ing again.

I've only seen the first episode so far but I thought it was good.

I liked how they showed Tuesday taking a minute to find the chords before playing along.

Maybe they'll do like they did with F/SN: UWB or F/A and once half of the series is done, they'll drop the first cour all at once?

Since there's a thread now, I'll repost my opinion on the recent episode

quote:

I'm the guy too impatient for Netflix release. I'm really enjoying Carole and Tuesday. I especially like the plot beat of Tuesday lighting her own lyric sheet on fire, silently taking Ertegun's criticism to heart and vowing to do better. I think that's part the reason Ertegun looks surprised at the end (aside from the fire): the upstart nobody actually listened to him instead of running off in a huff like Carole was about to. While he didn't even listen to the song, you get the feeling that he's been in the industry long enough to guess accurately. Doesn't get rid the sex pest vibes he's giving off tho. The only problem I have with the story right now is that it makes a big deal about AI songwriting, but we've yet to hear any AI songs aside from samples of Ertegun lives. Kinda undermines the conflict they're setting up as we don't know what the duo is up against. Then again, they have a ton of time to demonstrate later.

Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

I think I might have said this before, but I'm really curious if the way that profits from Netflix views+the increased viewership it offers offsets the sort of... lack of hype? That all but the most maximum hype anime series seem to get from it.

Like, for every Devilman Crybaby or Aggretsuko there's five P.A. Works shows that barely ever seem to see the light of day. Even something like Violet Evergarden, which actually did come out in a timely fashion and has a big (niche) audience in KyoAni fans and just people who like good looking animation, didn't really seem to generate the kind of real intensity

Though I suppose Netflix is ubiquitous enough that anybody who would've watched it on any other streaming platform probably did go ahead and watch it on Netflix

This show continues to rule and I like the episodic flow of the eps now, and am just looking forward to the wacky shenanigans these characters get into. Ep 4 felt like some of the lighter bebop/space dandy episodes which is what I liked best from Watanabe and co.

It's (legally) airing and streaming weekly a few places that aren't America, but I do not know if English subtitles exist anywhere like they did for shows like violet evergarden where it was am especially dumb thing you could watch weekly with English all done in Hong Kong but then couldn't in America.

According to PAS:

quote:

there will not be a 1080p release because the show’s native res is 720p and the Netflix 1080p is just a lovely oversharp (b=0 c=1) upscale. Fullscreen this in your player and it will look much better than any unfiltered (or even filtered if the encoder’s worse than me, K3) 1080p release and probably have half the filesize. We know what we’re doing.
I'm not familiar enough with video terminology to understand what most of that means, but if they say they know what they're doing I'll believe 'em.

Man, why does netflix keep pulling this bullshit with anime. I'm all for the binge strategy if the show is released that way (See: Devilman Crybaby) but holding back on a show that actively airs once a week just so you can release it all at once 6 months later is some bullshit.

The shows they get to release weekly are finished months before airing. For most shows the episodes get finished only a day or two before they air. Netflix needs to translate into several languages even outside of their desire to dub everything so there's no real way they could do a simultaneous release.

I think a lot of it is that the shows that fall prey to this, just... aren't really the kind of shows that create massive hype, period.

like, Violet Evergarden is a good show with a big built-in fanbase, but it's also slower than molasses. meanwhile they drop something like Baki, which is bugfuck crazy, and it manages to pick up a pretty sizable following with the same limited promotion.

it turns out that a guy shoving a bunch of bullets in another guy's mouth and then punching him in the chin so hard they all explode and blow his cheeks out, followed by the now-cheekless guy shrugging this off like nothing and beating the loving tar out of his assailant, is just plain more interesting to general audiences than slow robots or a show about music

Yeah but even a week behind would be better than waiting until the show has been over for a few weeks to drop it as a whole.
