(old rear end thread that I'm stealing a bunch of poo poo from) Mordhau's back and it's better than ever baby!!! A couple of days ago they announced the release date, which is the April 29th! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFpoDlH6Sxs  Mordhau is an upcoming multiplayer medieval combat game in the vein of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and War of the Roses. It also features large-scale battles, mounted combat and siege warfare similar to Mount & Blade. It promises an impressively fluid, free-form combat system and extensive customization options, with the ultimate goal being to strike a balance between gameplay and realism while avoiding the pitfalls of the genre. The game is currently being developed by Triternion, a small international team of developers.  When will it be released? in like a week holy poo poo!!! Which systems will it be released for? Keep a cool head and keep on practicing. Some newbie tips: -Wear T3 armor when trying to practice things. Keeps you alive longer. Even someone who's cleaving through rookies has to stop for a moment to deal with someone in full plate. Also, wear a loving helmet. -Learn to parry late, and learn to parry the top of people's weapons, not their torsos. -Learn dragging/accelerating. It's the "turn your hips" part of the tutorial. Moving your mouse while swinging your weapon will allow you to connect attacks faster and from better angles. -Learn weapon ranges and arcs! Always try and stay just out of reach of swords, or try and move real close against hafted weapons likes spears and pole-weapons. Footwork is super important, try not to ever be standing still! Probably not. But maybe! I've been keeping up with the game for a while, and I don't think the developers will cut and run as readily as Of Kings and Men did. They can't have been hurting too bad through development, as they rarely sold keys to get into the early access and only sold as much as they needed to get new blood in to actually test the game. I find it extremely funny that the whole pitch of Mordhau was "Chivalry but better/fixed" so they've removed all the drag glitches and underground swings and poo poo like that but they've also had people playing it for a year so any new people are just gonna get chewed up and spit out and it's gonna die. (Probably.)

That's one of my concerns too but I'm hoping that enough people buy in to where the turbonerds get drowned out in a sea of pubbies. There's been people playing for years, but not that many.

I don't remember what Chivalry's original price point was but I feel like we've seen a lot of proof over the last few years that sequels to multiplayer games tend to get dead very quickly almost regardless of price. I really hope I'm wrong, I miss Chivalry for a ton of reasons but I worry that the world has moved on. E: Also the first thread on the Steam forums is some chuds screaming about SJWs because someone asked about the promised female character models, so that's great.

I've been playing the pre-release/testing/kickstarter access version, whatever it is, for a while now. I'm not very good at it at all but I've had tons more fun with the combat than I ever did in Chivalry. Don't get me wrong, I played and enjoyed Chiv for years, but the fighting always felt opaque to me. I often wasn't able to tell what attack was coming and how to counter it, or how to deal with the weird spinning tricks that were popular late in the game. The fighting is Mordhau is way easier to at least tell what kind of swing is coming and defend against it. Now when I get killed (all the time), I usually know what I did wrong or what the opponent did right. I don't feel cheated or frustrated in death the way I did most of the time in Chiv. I'm looking forward to the Frontline modes which seem to be turning out like the objective modes in Chiv, with capturing points and taking territory, eventually turning into castle assaults moving siege engines around towards the enemy gates.

So one thing I'm not clear on is that there's now multi-directional attacking a la M&B but can you still just block at the weapon head like Chiv?

You can stop the attack by aiming your block at the direction the attack is coming from, but it's better to parry the attack by swinging in the same direction a moment before the weapon hits and then riposte by attacking when your weapons collide to strike at your opponent.

That's what Chivalry taught me, but something about it in Mordhau clicked for me last week and I've been getting better. I'm sure I'll never add the word "reliably" to that, but at least I don't hit block every single time now. Maybe it's the higher quality models and animations that telegraph the incoming attack better.

Yeah my hope is that the game does well so I can actually get good at it. I played a fair bit of the one life team servers in Chivalry but Chiv's combat was so utterly confounding that I never really got there.

I was super pumped when they first announced this game but I just have a weird feeling of unease about it. It’s like I had a vague memory that the devs did or said something that soured me but I honestly have no clue what it could have been.

I'm all for changing the name but can we please do something that's not just "This Game + This Game + This Game!!!", that poo poo's lame as hell lol. Feel free to toss out suggestions and someone can petition a mod if they really want the title changed, I don't mind. I'll do more for the thread once I get my hands on it. Thankfully the game will apparently only be like 30 bucks which is really going to help get a bunch of new players in I feel, to help drown out the Sword Gods that will be blendering across the battlefield.
