I posted these in the weird books thread, but I might as well repost. There's one of those kinds of second hand bookstores near where I sometimes get lunch. You know the ones - cramped, claustrophobic, constant fear of getting squished by a collapsing shelf or pile of sci-fi novels - and recently I found their pile of magazines from the 70s and 80s. Next time I'm in the area, I'll dig a little deeper and maybe buy a couple to scan bits from if the price is right. The Kins posted:A selection of back issues of a magazine published by the British Army. Quite what they were doing in an Australian suburb is anybody's guess.

Holy poo poo you guys, this picture made me laugh to the point of tears when I discovered it last night. It is like a pure distillation of the late 1970's in picture form:

More vans soon, but first, here are the other magazines I brought to work with me today. Let me know what you weirdos want to see first, and I'll try to sneak scans when my co-workers aren't paying attention.

OK, without further ado, here is the magazine that featured that sweet, sweet cocaine lady: Look at this fuckin' craftsman: I love me some letters to the editor of these types of magazines: This one is my favorite: Speaking of Star Wars vans: Behold, the muthafuckin' harem: This one is packed with good stuff and I scanned a bunch of pages. I'll post more when I have time.

Who wants to start a van clan? Ah yes, the Beaver Report is my most trusted news source. The van clan needs a CB enthusiast sub-group: I would drive this: I think I might have this book, or I at least have tried to buy it in the past. Old custom van books and magazines tend to be oddly expensive, but I have a few, which I've posted in the book thread. I'll have to go through my stash when I get home and find some good pics.

Someone should post some. Taintrunner did the lord's work by posting the link to 30 old issues of Soldier of Fortune on Archive.org, some of which were posted in the BUDK thread. I must find these... witchy posted:archive.org has a bunch of old Heavy Metal scans and they own: Oh poo poo, I haven't seen an issue of Heavy Metal since I was a teenager. Someone needs to go through those and post the sleazy gold. I wonder what else Archive.org has as far as old magazines. I know they have a ton of them, but I haven't really had a chance to search.

bad posts ahead!!! posted:the word "unsavory" flashes in my head looking at all these shagvans I have a few late 80's issues of Thrasher, and I think some old issues of TransWorld. I used to have a few issues of Big Brother and assorted others, but I haven't seen them in over a decade and assume they were lost or stolen at some point.

Everyone needs to see the 1977 movie The Van (co-starring a youngish Danny Devito). George Barris designed the main two vans in that movie, The Straight Arrow and Van Killer. George Barris also designed Super Van from the movie Super Van. I have a rad George Barris book that has pictures of those, and other custom vans. I'll try to remember to bring it to work so I can scan some. Anyway, there are some toy cars and other merch based on The Van and Super Van that came out back in the late 70's. (If you've seen those movies, you will probably find that as odd as I do.) I collect that stuff when I find it cheap, but that doesn't happen very often. Nonetheless, I have a few items. I posted a picture of my remote control Straight Arrow in the book thread awhile back. I'll take pictures of some other stuff when I get a chance to dig it out of whatever box it's packed inside. Work is breaking my balls. No time to scan anything else today. Someone else should pick up the slack!

What is going on here? Is that black face or just a combination of a lovely original photo, lovely original print job, all made worse by the scanning process? I bet you could shine a UV light into any of these vans at the time and the thing would bounce back a glow brighter than the Luxor's Sky Beam.

All those vans look rad as gently caress and super comfy What happened to the rich guy on the forums that bragged about living in a van? I'm pretty sure his van was a piece of dog poo poo compared to these prime shaggin' wagons

I followed that link to the internet archives and it turns out someone has been very busy uploading grand collections of 70's skin mags. The porn fairy has apperently moved from the woods to the cloud.
