Has anybody watched the new anime? I havenít checked it out yet but I heard they localized darkers as falspawn instead of the cancelled localizationís D-ARKers. Iím assuming thatís going to be the new name for the English version of the game. It certainly sounds nicer but itíll take some getting used to. I guess this means the new localization wonít be based on the original one at all.
I havenít started watching it yet but Iím going to be pissed if they get to the episode 2 story and localise Dark Falz Loser as literally anything else.

So uh... Iím actually kind of enjoying the new anime. Itís basically just the episode 1/2/3 story but streamlined and with a slightly darker/bloodierpresentation. Itís not Shakespeare but itís a decent enough way to waste 20 minutes every week.
I'm enjoying it too, I like how they are including things that were added to the story later on like having Alma in the flashback about Elder and showing Stratos being saved in the arks ship attack.

I'm so curious about how they are going to handle the content for this release.
I don't think there's any way it launches with episode 6 and launching with episode 4 or 5 content would be weird since from what I recall if you start a character during any of those it just drops you in the middle of the story and you have to make progress in ep5 before you can do the episode 1-3 recaps.
So would the release be like how the game was at episode 3 (since it mentions the nine classes and four races) and then everyone playing the US version has to go through the matterboard and wait ages for the episode 4/5/6 content to get added?

The ninth class is Summoner, so ep4. Ep4 was originally intended to be an easy in for people who'd been brought in by the anime, so if you haven't played before it gets you up to speed on what's happened so far. That would be a good starting point. I believe you can do the ep1/2/3 recaps without having to progress in ep5 now, you just won't get the scenes with Alma at first.
Oh yeah, I forgot about summoner.
Man, ep4 is gonna be a hell of a first impression for people playing this who liked the original PSO and haven't followed PSO2 at all.

If anyone is actually interested in the story, there's a pretty good anime adaptation of episodes 1 to 3 on Funimation called Phantasy Star Online 2 Episode Oracle.
They cut some stuff out for time like the Dragonkin and Harkotan but they make the story work without them, and it does show some stuff that you don't see in the game like some of the backstory for Quna and Hadred.

From what I remember when I did that quest on the Japanese version, there are hidden enemy spawns you need to trigger to get the maximum score. For example I think thereís some enemies in the forest area who only appear if you chop down some grass in a specific place, which I only found out about by reading a guide.
If you get max score you get a different fight at the end of the quest.

Yeah, 14 star pets were rare at first but at some point they gave up on making them hard to get and started putting them in the collection files too.

Not until Ep3. The anime doesn't include harukotan or magatsu (because it's totally irrelevant to the plot and exists only as a framing device for a boss fight) but other than that it's pretty much exactly the same story. I suggest watching the anime first and then skipping every cutscene in the game unless it doesn't look familiar to the story you already saw.
The anime does also skip over the dragonkin which otherwise wouldnít be a big deal, but thereís a major plot point in episode 6 that will involve them.

In the JP version I always seem to have loads of it and Iím not going out of my way to get it (like by grinding costumes that give you SG by wearing them enough), to the point where Iíve bought AC before but Iíve never even looked at how much it costs to buy SG.

The Japanese trailer for this has the same platforms that PSO2 is currently on (PS4, Cloud version on Switch) so I'm thinking this is a large scale update for PSO2 which would explain why they aren't doing episode 7 and dropped/are dropping Vita support.

So even though NG isnít replacing PSO2 thereís no way the original gets any meaningful content updates after NG launches right?
I assume itís just being kept online to stop people being completely outraged at losing things that donít carry over to NG and for Sega to have the option to go back to it in case NG somehow ends up being a massive flop.

If your subclass is Hunter you can get the skill that gives you a chance to survive a killing blow if you're above 1HP, after maxing it out it has a 75% chance to trigger.
Then at some point later they'll add a new Fighter skill that lets you survive any killing blow if you're in Limit Break mode but it cancels the mode and increases its cool down before you can use it again, if you have both of them the game does the 75% check on the Hunter skill before the Fighter's skill so if you have something healing you when you survive at 1HP you actually have a lot of survivability in Limit Break.

I still can't get over how out of sync that series was compared to Ep 4, like the writers didn't talk to each other besides "What if PSO2 was in the GAME/ANIME and real!". The anime could have at least had Esca / Aether / Mother or SOMETHING to tie it in more.

Also, the damned Sonic emblem-shapes school grounds really bugged me for some reason...
Itís weird how the first anime series is a prequel to episode 4 but spends like no time setting up things that happen in episode 4, and the things that do happen in the series basically donít matter in the game.

Like Hitsugi/Kohri appear but donít do anything and could just be replaced with nameless characters, Darkers/Falspawn invade Earth from the Oracle universe in the series but this doesnít come up at all in PSO2 (outside of being an excuse why Matoi is absent for the first part of episode 4), and the most prominent ARKs character in the series (Aika) barely appears in the game when she could have taken the role of Afin/Matoi and been your characterís partner for the episode.

As it is, all the anime really does is set up a joke boss in episode 5 and a scene in episode 6 (that admittedly Iím a sucker for and I loved when they start playing the main theme from the series).

I've only dabbled with Gunner whereas Fighter was my main until Etoile was introduced in Episode 6 so I'm incredibly biased but in my opinion Fighter is more fun because you have three weapon types that are all somewhat viable that you can swap between so your play style is more varied, whereas Gunner is basically just Twin Machine Guns.

The actual fight isn't that bad since it's pretty easy to dodge or block most of his attacks when you know the tells.
The death limit is the main problem since you could be playing perfectly but if someone else in your party keeps dying you fail, or the other people in the party aren't doing enough damage so you fail the DPS check at the end of the fight.

At the rate theyíre updating the game, it wonít be long until the Ray/Union series are powercrept anyway so it really doesnít matter if you canít clear solo Profound Darkness.

Plus if you wait the fight will be easier when they increase the level cap and better weapons get added.
