More information about the school shooter Devon Erickson from his social media profiles.
https://heavy.com/news/2019/05/devon-erickson/
quote:
Devon Erickson, one of the accused school shooters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, had a social media presence that included some political posts but also highlighted more mundane interests, from paintball to skateboarding to singing cover songs.
There was nothing overtly visible on the pages that foreshadowed the carnage that was to come; in contrast, the social media of the second accused shooter shows anger toward “STEM kids.” You can read more about that later in this article.
...
In posts on social media, Erickson, 18, a registered Democrat (according to Colorado records), shared a post that expressed admiration for former President Barack Obama and shared a post that strongly criticized President Donald Trump. He also expressed hatred for some Christians.
Many of Erickson’s social media posts, at least the older ones, chronicle a youth acting career, everything from Legally Blonde to Les Mis in local theater.
...
Aiden Beatty told The Denver Post that Erickson was the “lead vocalist” in rock bands they made, including one dubbed Foster Home. He told the Post that Erickson had gotten a job as a vocal instructor and that the shooting came out of the blue. He also told the newspaper that Erickson “had conflicts” with other students because he was physically small.
On Snapchat, Erickson’s user name was “devonkillz.”
...
The above photo is the most recent on Devon Erickson’s Instagram page. It dates to March 2019. He included a slew of hashtags: “#aesthetic #aestheticgrunge #aesthetictumblr #grunge #darkaesthetic #darkgrunge #softgrunge #tumblraesthetic #aestheticoutfit #grungetumblr #grungestyle #aestheticposts #tumblrgirl #aestheticgirl #cuteaesthetic #pastelgrunge #softgrunge #softaesthetic #vintagestyle
#tumblrinspo #alternative #gothaesthetic.” A tattoo reading OwO is visible on his arm. It’s a meme from the “furry community,” according to Buzzfeed, and also an “Eastern emoticon” connoting a perplexed expression.
With one post, he wrote, “I’m covered in ink and addicted to pain.”
...
[On Facebook]
“You know what I hate? All these Christians who hate gays, yet in the bible, it says in Deuteronomy 17:12-13, if someone doesn’t do what their priest tells them to do, they are supposed to die. It has plenty of crazy stuff like that,” he wrote in one Facebook post a couple years ago. “But all they get out of it is ‘ewwwwww gays.'” In 2015, Erickson put a celebrate pride filter onto a Facebook picture.
In 2016, he shared a video of Seth Meyers criticizing President Donald Trump, and the year before he shared an Occupy Democrats post praising then President Barack Obama. Newer posts aren’t visible; some of his posts were more mundane. “GO BRONCOS!!!! LETS TAKE DOWN THE PATRIOTS!!!!” read one 2016 post. Pages he liked on Facebook run the gamut, and they included pages devoted to AK47s, PewDiePie, Chuck Norris, and Bruno Mars, among many others.
...
He once dressed as Slenderman for Halloween, although that was in 2012, years ago.
...
The Denver Channel wrote that multiple sources say “the second suspect, who is a minor, is a transgender male who was in the midst of transitioning from female to male.” The motive, the station alleges, “went beyond bullying and involved revenge and anger towards others at the school,” adding that one suspect “was involved in legal and illegal drug use and had been in therapy.”
Both suspects were students at the STEM school, the sheriff said.

This is kind of some weird mealy mouthed talk imo.
If it was revenge and anger motivated then obviously it was due to the bullying. "Went beyond bullying" is a meaningless qualifier except to say that you don't think the bullying was bad enough to justify the response. Just say that then.
quote:"involved in legal and illegal drug use and had been in therapy"
So first let's look at the legal drugs clause there; "involved in legal drug use." Uh, who loving gives a poo poo? You could say that about 99.9% of the US population. "Illegal drug use" is kind of also meaningless without more context. I doubt it was very heavy drugs if they were also on psychiatric medications.
Like idk this whole statement just seems like a politesse way to say "crazy person went crazy watcha gonna do?"

Almost everyone gets bullied sometimes through school. Almost no one shoots up the loving school.
This guy was a furry, so obviously already mentally ill. He shouldn't have been able to get his hands on a gun.

Man this kid Devon Erickson was giving off all sorts of signals.

May 11, 2019
quote:
Alleged Colorado Shooter Devon Erickson Had History Of Bullying Other Kids, Former Friend Says
Devon Erickson, the 18-year-old student who, together with an accomplice, allegedly opened fire at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado on Tuesday, was known for years as a bully who would make jokes about school shootings, a former friend claimed in a recent interview.
Speaking to CNN on Friday, former STEM School Highlands Ranch student Kevin Cole told the correspondent Scott McLean that Erickson’s friends “couldn’t believe” that the teenager was purportedly behind Tuesday’s shooting, but “weren’t entirely surprised” either by the news. He also shed light on Erickson’s alleged penchant for bullying other students, telling McLean that the two were once friends, but ultimately fell out after Erickson started picking on his brother.
As Cole recalled, the bullying did not go beyond Erickson taunting his brother and spreading rumors about him. However, he claimed that the alleged Colorado gunman resorted to violence when it came to other students, particularly those who angered him. According to Cole, this included a classroom incident where Erickson tried to choke one of his friends with a rubber tube.
That’s how he got his kicks, that’s what he thought was funny is if he could get a reaction out of you,” Cole told CNN.
While the CNN report didn’t mention too many details about the alleged bullying victims, a separate report from NBC News noted that Erickson’s supposed bullying was mainly directed toward younger children.
In addition to the above accusations of violent behavior and verbal abuse against other students, Cole also recounted that Erickson joked multiple times about shooting up the school, including incidents where he would tell his classmates that he would start shooting after he dropped his pencil, then continue dropping pencils as the class continued. However, those weren’t the only times that Erickson would hint at such plans, his former friend added.
“He would just get really close and kind of hunch himself over your shoulder as you were sitting down, and he would just whisper in your ear ‘don’t come to school tomorrow’ and just kind of crack a smile and walk back to his seat,” said Cole.

ban all guns like seriously just ban them and in a couple generations (hopefully sooner) there will be way fewer guns, I can kinda deal with a knife attack I can't deal with being shot in the head what kind of doofus still opposes this. why can't I buy a tank at a gun show? I mean, it's for personal defense. A full blown tank. Why not exactly?

this is actually a bit thought-provoking :
James Howard Kunstler posted:
Is it possible that we Americans only pretend not to notice the conditions that produce an epidemic of school shootings, or is the public just too dumbed-down to connect the dots?
Look at the schools themselves. We called them “facilities” because they hardly qualify as buildings: sprawling, one-story, tilt-up, flat-roofed boxes isolated among the parking lagoons out on the six-lane highway strip, disconnected from anything civic, isolated archipelagoes where inchoate teenage emotion festers and rules while the few adults on the scene are regarded as impotent clowns representing a bewildering clown culture wrapped in a Potemkin economy that has nothing to offer young people except a lifetime of debt and “bullshit jobs” — to borrow a phrase from David Graeber.
The world of teens has been exquisitely engineered to steal every opportunity for colonizing the chemical reward centers of their brains to provoke endorphin hits, especially the cell-phone realm of social media, which is almost entirely about status competition, much of which revolves around the wild hormonal promptings of teen sexual development — at the same time they are bombarded with commercial messages designed to prey on their fantasies, longings, and perceived inadequacies. All of this produces immersive and incessant melodrama along with untold grievance, envy, frustration, confusion, and rage. And, of course, where the cell-phone universe leaves off, the world of video games begins, so that boys (especially) get to act-out in “play” the extermination of their competitors and foes.
I will venture to say — against the tide of current sexual politics — that adolescence is much tougher for boys these days than it is for girls. Every boy in one way or another faces his archetypal hero’s journey, the hard-wired seeking to become powerful in one way or another, to accomplish something, to prevail over adversaries, to win the goodies of life. This country used to be a place where young men had many useful and practical paths to follow in enacting that eternal script.
That has changed utterly in a couple of generations. Young men are being out-competed by young women who enjoy the advantage of being hard-wired to cooperate with others in the hive-like corporate workplaces that require tractable drones who will just follow instructions. The smart ones can easily avoid pregnancy, too, and still enjoy sex and all the exciting social games it entails.
For young men, beyond the repellent corporate world of work are only fantasies about triumphing in pro sports, show business, or the drug trade, with pornography and masturbation in place of the tension-filled process of mate-seeking. There is also plenty of opportunity these days for archetypal acting-out in warfare, but our wars lately are devoid of valorous story-lines, and instead of dying nobly for a cause, our soldiers are more likely to come home with shattered brains and bodies from campaigns of no discernable meaning.
And so high school is the launching pad for all that, though in this era of protracted adolescence, mass murders also take place on college campuses. The part of the forebrain that regulates judgment generally doesn’t complete its development in young men until sometime in their early twenties. And college is swiftly becoming as meaningless as high school, given the economic landscape, and the debt racketeering now deeply associated with higher education.
It’s all part-and-parcel with an American way-of-life that is not what it advertises itself to be. It’s become a cruel hologram of a distant memory of a land that sold its soul for a few decades of comfort and convenience, and ended up in a wilderness of addiction to cheap hits of pleasure. Pleasure is not happiness and the constant seeking to satisfy pleasures is not a journey to meaning. The catch is that this toxic way of life has poor prospects for continuing as a practical matter. History is catching up with our foolishness and history will prove to be even more wrathful than a lonely, confused, seventeen-year-old boy with a pistol and shotgun.

All I took from that is that women managed to cope with having all autonomy and hope of material advancement stripped from them without becoming crazed mass murderers, but for some reason we should feel more sorry when it happens to men, and give their wildly unmanaged behaviour more leeway. ~*For some reason*~
The reason is that the author doesn't think women are actually people, and so can't grasp that 'struggling to deal with a lack of purpose or hope for the future' is not only not some uniquely male thing, but that the only reason men have been sheltered from it so long is due to male privilege.
"Women are naturally suited to being office drones, it's actually the men trying to murder them because they can't handle being stuck in the poo poo with everyone else who are the real victims."
